5.0 out of 5 stars Much needed serious boost for Galaxy S2, 3 Oct 2011
I bought this battery with little expectations, but wow, it's a huge improvement over the stock battery that the Samsung Galaxy S2 comes with! No longer do I run out of juice after 10hrs - Instead, I get a full day's use, and without having to worry about killing apps all the time. The stock battery is now my back-up battery; this is a great main battery.

5.0 out of 5 stars Aging cor-ten steel, 3 Oct 2011
This item was cheap, promptly delivered, and worked a treat at ageing cor-ten steel. Admittedly, I didn't think it was possible to buy such a strong chemical online, Amazon proved me wrong. Very happy!

4.0 out of 5 stars Very insightful, 15 Jan 2011
A great little book that's full of insight into a difficult subject for an outsider to understand. I bought this book because I wanted to better understand [read: at least have a vague idea] of what my architect girlfriend does, and how she's thinking about architecture. The book is very interesting, if somewhat overwhelming if read in big chunks - I found myself rereading each 'thing' again and again to grasp what concept was being expressed! Nonetheless, with a little perseverance, '101 Things I Learned in Architecture School' is a well worthwhile read, and has subsequently given me a much better insight into the mysterious and dark-art of architecture. Moreover, I'm now consciously considering figure and space, the spaces in between, and their relationships. Sounds daft, but for me is a breakthrough!

Amusingly, I'm told some of the terms in the book must be american, because they don't exist in the european/asian professional world, so read with a degree of caution (or like me, you'll look like an idiot who's making up design terms in front of a party full of architects!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing little chopper, 11 Jun 2010
= Durability:4.0 out of 5 stars  = Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars  = Educational:4.0 out of 5 stars
Firstly, this is the same helicopter listed elsewhere as the GyroFlyer [the one reviewed in Stuff Magazine]. However, here it's 1/3 cheaper from these guys, and they were prompt delivers too (via courier).

Quite simply, this RC helicopter is great. It's beautiful build quality belies it's pricetag. And to fly it is an absolute cinch. It hovers perfectly still and rotates precisely. Fore and Aft is equally accurate. Really, the level of precise control is unbelievable - you can fly it exactly where you want it to go.
Charging takes about 45mins via the remote control + USB, or 40mins via a PC + USB (cable included along with a spare tail rotor). For each charge, you get about 5-8mins flying. Plus it's rather lovely to look at in-between charges!

I'm probably too old for the toy, but i'm VERY happy to at last have a little RC helicopter ...and so cheaply! I'm amazed.

The Syma S107 IS the GyroFlyer, but here's it's listed in its full name. Outstanding.

5.0 out of 5 stars Best edge ever, 11 April 2010
The Syderco Tri-Sharpener is an amazing little device. The sharpener comes with a DVD instruction guide that is painfully naff but worthwhile watching; it teaches you how to use the Spydeco to sharpen all manner of objects. In different configurations, it's able to deliver outstandingly sharp edges to knives, scissors, fishing hooks, darts, axes...

The edges it produces are so sharp yet critically smooth too, they glide through pretty much everything ...including fingers (be warned, one needs to be especially careful with knives sharpened with the Spyderco - everyone in my house including myself, have been caught out by how deceptively sharp the edges this gizmo leaves)! The Spyderco can quickly produce an edge sharp enough to shave hairs off you arm!

My one criticism is I'm finding the very tiny tip of my knives chip off during sharpening. You'd really have to look hard to see this, but because of the action involved in sharpening flicks the point of the blade off the rods, it's wearing the very tiniest tip off the blade also. This isn't a big concern to me because there's still a very sharp point, but for a device that treats the knives blade so well, this is the only flaw in its design. Besides, it probably just requires me to adapt my technique a little.

I've used many types of sharpeners over the years, all with similar results -there was a lot of skill involved to get a sharp edge, and even then, those edges were pretty rough and would often catch and rip newspaper. I took a chance the Sypderco, having read lots of reviews for it. At £60, it's not cheap, but if you really want a knife, any knife, to be as sharp as a scalpel, then this is the device to get. It's in a different league to anything I've ever used before. It's great!

5.0 out of 5 stars Jaw dropping., 19 Feb 2010
This review is from: Streetwise Spycraft (Paperback)
I'm currently researching for a TV drama, and have traipsed through all the usual suspects like Andy McNab and Chris Ryan's books (novels, biographies and reference). This is in a different league. It's amazing!
It's quite a small sized book, easy reading, and short yet without skimming on information. It's also got the tiniest of text (8pt or similar!). It reads like a military field manual: it's firm, clear, and to the point. It is so frank, so often, that every few pages I was left startled by new insights into the dirty world of intelligence and surveillance. As the author Barry Davies says in the introduction, all the information is on the web, but at least 50% of the contents of this book was totally new to me: Dead Letter Boxes and passing messages; recruiting and handling agents; disguises; techniques for mobile and static surveillance; garbology (what they say and what it means); tips on effective sabbotage; techniques on lock picking and breaking and entering; how to fight [really, really] dirty; how to create a new identity and obtain a new passport from families of the recently deceased(!); govt intelligence systems like Echelon; ways to bypass keypad entry systems... It just goes on and on. I can't stop thinking about some of the stuff that he highlights that must be going on all around us. Amazing!

My only reservation is the front cover: It's doesn't inspire confidence that the book is going to be any good, yet it's also just blaitent enough to detract from reading it whilst on the tube.

This isn't a book for spies, but if you want to learn a little (or a lot) about the real world of Jason Bourne and James Bond, then I highly recommend this book.

3.0 out of 5 stars Big isn't always better., 19 Feb 2010
I was going to buy both the big dictionary and the big thesaurus, but figured the 2-in-1 option better suited my needs. However, whilst still some 1100 pages in size, it is too limited in depth to be anything more than an office or classroom dictionary, which I found a little disappointing. It has large, clear text yet at the sacrifice of word count. The dictionary is also quite a beast in physical size - It's certainly not one to carry about.
I'm satisfied with Chambers 2-in-1 dictionary, and know it will serve me well by my desk. I do wonder if I made the right choice though. Oh well!

The Natural Art of Seduction: Secrets of Success With Women
The Natural Art of Seduction: Secrets of Success With Women

1.0 out of 5 stars Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo, 26 Aug 2008
Firstly, I must commend Richard on his achievements and success with his book/business. I was in Richard's year at college, in Cambridge and recognised him from his old picture instantly [inside front cover], and can vouch for his original `geekiness'!

His `success' aside, this book, The Natural Art of Seduction, is truly awful. Moreover, his terribly written advice is banal, with only a few interesting insights interspersed amongst painfully tedious tales of female conquests, that are limited in scope to picking-up foreign tourists in Soho and materialistic chicks in noncy bars that the average Joe wouldn't be seen dead in.

A noteworthy point that brought a smile however, was how Richard pretends to be a high-roller, exuding social status whilst reading like a proud miser circumventing any moments where money matters pop up, even getting girls (when they're lucky) to contribute to the wine he's buying them - that is ballsy!

Perhaps what is at fault most with the book, is its confused angle - is Richard advising readers how to have confidence with girls or is he advising how to be a pick-up artist? This lack of a clear angle undermines his advice, and goes to the core of the book's problem.
The fleeting encounters in his self-loving diary accounts are dull, patronising and downright annoying. They're written to affirm in the reader that Richard is the daddy of pick-ups, yet I found myself growing irritated and distracted by the sad, shallow, and somewhat pathetic caricature of a PUA. Richard's embarrassing shallowness is typified in his Paris Hilton story.

The book is comprised of 30% tiresome diary accounts, 30% CHEESY chat-up lines, and 5% pseudo mind games - The rest is just padding. You'll find a lot more helpful tips by simply using Google, and watching Derran Brown ...And going out.

Be under no illusions, this book is at best irritating, and certainly won't prove to be a golden ticket into a woman's psyche, heart or pants.

This book underpinned my thesis into sound design. David Sonnenschien writes very clearly and with great enthusiasm. Moreover, he encourgaes the reader to contact him, which in my case provided useful primary research. Ultimately, what i gleaned from this book lead to me lecturing at university and has helped distinguish me now i work within the Film and TV industry.
Buy it and potentially bore your friends rigid with wonderfull facts. Excellent.
