Crystal Meditation: Find Inner Strength Through Crystal Power and Healing Meditation
Crystal Meditation: Find Inner Strength Through Crystal Power and Healing Meditation
by Sue Parlett
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice enough kit but very basic., 22 Jan. 2014
This is a pretty kit, would make a nice gift to someone newly interested in crystals.
It comes with 17 crystals and 10 meditation cards along with the guidebook.
Simply explained are meditation, using crystals for chakra balancing and a brief guide to the properties of the crystals in the kit, followed by interactive meditations using the cards and crystals {meditations such as inner peace, emotional calm, wisdom and strength ,unconditional love etc ].
Its a nice 'starting point ' kit but may be too basic for anyone who already works with crystals or for those wanting something more indepth.

Ask the Oracle: Predicting Answers to Questions of Mind, Heart, and Soul
Ask the Oracle: Predicting Answers to Questions of Mind, Heart, and Soul
by Philip Dunn
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars A good oracle kit, 18 Jan. 2014
I brought this at a mind, body and spirit fair as a 'on sale' item a few months back without really knowing much about it.
I'm glad I did as it is pretty accurate as oracles go,very simple to use,and very reminiscent of the I ching oracle {but not quite as indepth}. Three kinds of reading can be given, yes or no answers, intuitive answers and more spiritual answers.Nice to add to your 'oracle' sets collection.

Daily Spells
Daily Spells
by Arianne McCabe
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £6.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice enough little spellbook, 15 Jan. 2014
This review is from: Daily Spells (Hardcover)
This is a very 'light' introduction to spellcraft. Giving simple magic to improve your life, starting with a few basics like grounding and centring. I do want to say that most witches would disagree with the information on the athame - most withches use it as an energy tool rather than to cut herbs and I definitely would be careful soaking a metal blade in saltwater for an hour, this can cause rust.
Some of the spells include: Attract love, Spice up your sex life, Heal a cold, Success, Heal a headache, Protection, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars A wonderful book, 8 Jan. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Its so good to read 'new' Cunningham material (I didn't come to witchcraft till 1998 so never read the almanacs).
Its sure to be a hit with long term fans as well as new seekers on the path.
The book is divided into five sections 'Personal power and growth', 'Instruction and applied magic', 'Herbs and food', 'Nature and earth power', and 'Ancient cultures and lore'.
Its basically all Scott's article's from the Almanac's he contributed to over the years, including article's dealing with 'Dressing with power', 'Protective magic', 'Magical names', 'The magical teacher', 'A magical glossary', 'Remedies of wise woman', 'The yule tree', 'The magical pantry', 'Ritual herbal teas', 'Food of the sabbats', 'A primer in natural magic and rituals', 'Weather omens', 'Spells', 'Hecate', 'Magic in Hawaii', and 'Ancient Egyptian incense' along with other interesting and useful articles.
The book ends with a chapter by Donald Michael Kraig (A friend of Scott's) telling of how they met and their friendship. He also details parts of some of Scott's most popular titles -giving some of the recipes, spells, and chants.
I really enjoyed this book, one of Scott Cunningham's books (Wicca a guide for solitary practitioner') was my first ever introduction to real witchcraft so I guess I'll always have a soft spot for his works.
This book, along with his many other classic titles, is essential reading for anyone interested in magic/wicca/witchcraft and related topics. Blessed Be.

Magickal Sex: A Witches' Guide to Beds, Knobs and Broomsticks
Magickal Sex: A Witches' Guide to Beds, Knobs and Broomsticks
by Fiona Horne
Edition: Hardcover

4.0 out of 5 stars I enjoyed it, 20 Dec. 2013
I like Fiona's writing style, very chatty- like having a gossip with a friend. The book is set out in kind of a question and answer format, with magical ideas for dealing with several different love/sex situations such as fertility, attracting man of your dreams, feeling more self love, etc. Also included are a few recipes for 'sexy scents' and the one I made up smelled divine!
I did like this book, but I do agree with other reviewer about Beltane, that's not how I'm going to celebrate it.

The Healing Power of Crystals: Precious Stones and Their Planetary Interactions
The Healing Power of Crystals: Precious Stones and Their Planetary Interactions

3.0 out of 5 stars Some interesting ideas, 13 Dec. 2013
This is not your typical crystal healing book, it deals more with working with crystals from an astrological point, using crystals matched to your ruling planet to balance and aid you in your life. It covers a lot of historical properties of crystals; sometimes it does seem the actual healing properties are more of an afterthought unfortunately.
Its still a good read but not my most used crystal book, and if new to the subject I'd probably suggest a book with more pictures of crystals (it has a few as an insert but not many) to help with identification such as 'The crystal bible' Judy Hall.
Two better books on healing with crystals are 'Crystal healing; the complete practitioners guide' Hazel Raven and 'Beginners guide to crystals' Denise whichello Brown.

Training and Work of an Initiate
Training and Work of an Initiate
by Dion Fortune
Edition: Paperback
Price: £11.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting read, 7 Dec. 2013
Recently found this in a used book store, really shows what treasures can be found if you look.
I sort of agree with both of the earlier reviewers. It's not a book to learn wicca or witchcraft from , its not one of the first books you need,so if moving along that path Read Scott Cunningham, Kate West, Doreen Valiante or Dorothy Morrison's books if looking for that-pretty much everything they've written is useful to aspiring witches.
But having said that, Dion Fortune's book's are works that anyone interested in magic/occult should read at some point on their path as they are regarded as classics in this field.
While not everything is useable, there are some pearls of wisdom scattered throughout this work, I especially like when she said (Quote) :
'It is not everybody who is ready for initiation. It is said that it takes three lives of steadfast effort to find the path; but even if we see no likelihood of the goal being achieved in this life, lets remember that everything must have a beginning, and we cannot have a third life of achievement without a first and second life of preparation. Evenif we have no hope of making this life one of achievement we can still resolve to make it one of preparation. As time is measured differently on the inner planes, it maybe that we still achieve more than we ever thought possible'

I have to admit that I feel I'm on my first life of preparation!
Occasionally the book seemed alittle old-fashioned but it has every right to, since originally published in 1930.

The Oracle of the Pharaohs
The Oracle of the Pharaohs
by Norman Plaskett
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice vibrant deck, 28 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an interesting card deck, with bright colours and likeable, although rather simplistic, artwork. The deck is made of four parts-pylons, the arits, cubits, and deities, they are thoroughly mixed together and read in the past, present and future layout given (only one spread being given is rather limiting, although I have used one card readings with success, and believe that they'd work with most Tarot spreads).
I found the cards accurate. In the book, the author says its best not to read for yourself and those close to you as its easy to hold presumptions that will make it almost impossible to read the cards, but they worked fine reading for myself. I find the author's idea rather strange, cause if you aren't going to read for yourself and those close to you, then when are you ever going to get to use the cards? There'd be no point having the cards. While I do agree it can be abit more difficult to be objective reading for yourself, it still can be done, with practice you can learn to detach.
I also want to mention that this kit is a reprint (and rename) of the 1998 'The Egyptian oracle' so do be aware of that.
If you like oracles with an Egyptian perspective, other good sets are 'The eye of Horus' by David Lawson and 'The scarab oracle' by detraci Regula.
