This little book tells a great deal about the operations over North Vietnam and how much was learnt by the USAF in the period between 1965 and 1973.

Do. The man is a traitor, not a patriot. He is as bad as Kim Philby et al in the Cold War.

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent ending to the series, 3 Jun. 2014

The book fell off a little towards the end as the characters moved more into archetypes but then I believe this is the nature of myth-making.

I really enjoyed the series and this is a great penultimate novel. The plot is dark and intricate and the characterisations perfectly realised.

5.0 out of 5 stars Original, illuminating research, 9 Dec. 2013
A marriage of English and history as disciplines, the author succeeds in unwrapping a man and his period and thus makes explicable the events of Wyatt's time.

The Last Days of Richard III
The Last Days of Richard III
by John Ashdown-Hill
Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Breaks some new ground but lacks much detail, 19 Nov. 2012

I bought this having not read JAH's work before. This proved to be a very interesting book, though I was disappointed that only the first half of the book dealt with Richard's reign in 1485. This part gave a good feel for the policy and confidence of the king and his rule. The second half of the book deals with the death and burial of Richard, which was not something that really interested me.

Heaven on Earth: The Varieties of the Millennial Experience

5.0 out of 5 stars A superb thesis, 17 Oct. 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
What is so compelling about this work is that the author has looked at the modern world through the medieval lens and found deep similarities of behaviour, assumptions and outcomes. Richard Landes is at his most impressive in analysing the Communist and Nazi revolutions as two different sort of apocalyptic movements and provides the framework for a complete revision of those two periods.
I cannot recommend this book highly enough.
