4.0 out of 5 stars Some great extras., 31 Mar 2014

If you are looking at this product you probably don't need me to sell you the series itself, you likely know how engrossing and how brilliantly put together it is. Why then should you buy this box set instead of watching or re-watching the series on a catch-up service?

The extras are why. All three series have some incredibly interesting and entertaining audio commentaries that accompany the episodes. Some are really informative, with the director or writers giving insights into how particular things were done, where, when and why. Each series George R.R. Martin commentates the episode that he specifically wrote, and this is especially interesting for those who have not read the books as he points out some of the differences in characters, or settings, or slight plot changes. Some of them that feature the actors have less (although still a reasonable amount) of insight into the filming process, however they are fun and entertaining and allow the watcher to learn a bit about the actors behind the characters and what may be involved with their daily lives on and off the shoot. Unfortunately there are usually about two or three episodes a season without commentary, however in seasons two and three some of them have two. This is a bit disappointing as I re-watch the series and want to have a commentary an episode as I do so and not have to watch episodes twice in succession, but is not a major issue.

'The Making Of' documentaries are also insightful and as a filmmaker myself they are inspirational in giving me ideas for ways of shooting things. Although some of the things that they talk about are touched upon in the commentaries, overall they are still worth the watch for a bit of a closer look, and to see how things looked before the editing and visual effects teams got a hold of them.

In addition to this there are many other short featurettes about the 'Game of Thrones' world and the making of the series, and for season three there are extended and deleted scenes.

Something that I think is a very nice touch is the episode guide pamphlet included for each series. In all the seasons it has the episode names and summaries on it. For the first season also included on it are family trees, and a map of the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros. The second series has information about the characters and a map that extends to show all of the areas that the show visits. In the third season pamphlet there is a nice piece of concept art of the Throne Room in King's Landing.

Overall I am very impressed with the box set as a whole. I do think however that the third season lacks somewhat in the 'Making Of' department, however it has other featurettes on aspects of the cultures within the series and extended and deleted scenes that somewhat make up for this. If you are a fan of the show and are looking to know more about it, or even want to re-watch it, I do recommend this box set with the audio commentaries on (and you can subtitle the show so you can still keep up with the story).

Pterosaurs: Natural History, Evolution, Anatomy
Pterosaurs: Natural History, Evolution, Anatomy
by Mark P. Witton
Edition: Hardcover
Price: 16.72

5.0 out of 5 stars Good looking and interesting., 31 Mar 2014
This book is likely to entertain pterosaur enthusiasts whether they are knowledgeable on the subject or just beginning their reading on it. It goes into a reasonable amount of depth about various elements of pterosaurology and touches on the behavior, evolution and appearance of a wide variety of species, as well as looking at the different ways these have been interpreted over the course of history.

To add to this, the images and illustrations are done to a very high standard and really help to bring this vibrant prehistoric world to life.

Also the range of source texts that the author has used and references provides a huge library of reading for anyone who wants to go and look deeper into any of the aspects covered in the book.

I am thoroughly enjoying reading it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 8 Nov 2013

This was the first time that I have bought or used a slow cooker so I didn't really know what to expect, but I was very pleased overall.

The recipe book is excellent. The photos make your mouth water, and after a quick flick through there were already loads that I wanted to try. Some of them require special ingredients that you might not keep in your cupboards as standard but nothing too fancy or difficult to obtain, and anyway if you have ever cooked regularly before, you know that some ingredients can be substituted for others depending on preference. You do have to do some precooking beforehand, it is not just a chop and throw in a pot job for most of the recipes, but usually it is just a single saucepan needed to precook and then pour the contents of that into the slow cooker pot.

The pot itself is large enough that you can easily make four portions of most recipes in it, and it is easy to clean. The cooker is light without the pot in, and even together they are easy to move and small enough to fit in cupboards.

The resulting food is full of flavour and unbelievably tender, so that it almost falls apart in your mouth. Prepping before lunchtime and leaving the food to cook for 7 or 8 hours is great if you will be to tired or busy in the evenings, and you get a nice home-made meal with the effort happening when you have the most energy - the mornings.

Overall, I'd say that if you are unsure about getting a slow cooker, definitely invest in this one. It is cheap, does the job excellently and the free recipe book is a nice extra.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very good, especially for the price., 8 Nov 2013

Considering the price of this product I was very pleasantly surprised. Although the English on the packet and small instruction manual is not the best, it does not take a genius to figure out how to use it. The large battery symbol on the side is very helpful to indicate when charging and when outputting power, and to see how much charge is left, shown by pressing a button on the side when not in use. This is where my one issue comes in - I am yet to see an indication that the pack has finished charging, instead it seems as though it is necessary to disconnect the Power Bank and press the button to see the charge level.

I bought this to use with my Raspberry Pi first and foremost, which it works with wonderfully. I have tested it whilst running the camera module, streaming the footage wirelessly, and whilst doing that, the battery lasted at least 6 hours, making it perfect for setting up a portable CCTV camera. I now plan to take the Power Bank with me on day trips and holidays as I'm sure you are aware of the length of a smartphone battery these days.

A further feature that I am impressed with is the ability to be plugged in, and provide power at the same time. According to the manual, the two USB output ports can provide power simultaneously, as long as the devices don't require current exceeding 2.1A total.

Overall, very impressed.

The Call of Cthulhu and Other Tales of the Lovecraft Mythos

I was looking to get into Lovecraftian fiction and so I picked up this book. I wasn't dissapointed. Aside from the title story, there are sixteen other dark and mysterious gothic works written by the Master of the Macabre himself, ranging from a few pages, to several chapters. From knowing very little about the Lovecraft Mythos, after reading this book I am very well versed in understanding how his gothic, philosophical, entertaining and oftentimes shocking universe fits together. If you have been attracted by the title story and want to know more, then this is for you. My only criticism would be that it doesn't have every story he wrote in it!

Shi No Barado
Shi No Barado
Price: 2.37

5.0 out of 5 stars A couple of great songs., 28 April 2013
This review is from: Shi No Barado (MP3 Download)
If you don't have 'All The Lights In The Sky' then you should definitely buy this. Shi No Barado is one of the best songs on the album, and a great example of Area 11's music. Featuring Beckii Cruel's vocal talents, the duet really helps to bring out the song's lyrical themes. Then you have The Legendary Sannin. If you've heard the 'Blackline' version of this song then you'll know how powerful a rock song it is. This re-recorded version adds that extra punch, and they've added that extra uniqueness of more Japanese sounding versions of some of the melodies, counterbalancing the power of the guitars. Additionally, you get the off-vocal of Shi No Barado, so you can pretend you are Sparkles* or Beckii singing on stage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great USB Charger, 7 May 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I ordered this USB charger because I had an MP3 player that only charged from USB and my phone charger had broken, so I had to charge via the USB cable. Having something like this that plugs into a mains socket is extremely useful and allows me to charge my electronics overnight, or at times when my PC is off, therefore I don't have to turn it on especially, and thus saving energy. When I bought this product, I also bought a 4 PORT USB MULTI HUB EXPANSION SPLITTER BLACK, and so I have saved on the amount of sockets used compared to buying 4 plugs. You also save money this way, and you can also use it with your PC if you want.

Another good reason for this purchase is that USB cables are usually a lot smaller than normal chargers, and so therefore they will take up less room in your case!

Overall, I recomend everybody has at least one of these in their house!
