Review: Daniel Isn't Talking by Marti Leimbach, 11 Dec 2006
I met Marti Leimbach and bought her book at an autism conference. The book is based on a true story of her and her son with autism. I highly recommend this book as not only is it a great read but it describes in good detail my favourite approach in helping children with autism. There are a lot of very rigid approaches to helping children with autism out there, but as someone who works in the field I know from personal experience that the more flexible, child-centered approaches work best. The fact that the author's son progessed from profound autism to high-functioning Asperger's illustrates the efficacy of this approach. This book is a must not only for the general public but also especially for all who wish to work with children with autism.
