5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect Squeezebox Addition, 22 May 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
'Enhanced Digital Output' is a plugin for the Squeezebox Touch. This facilitates playback of up to 24bit 192khz hi-res music files via Spdif or USB.

The Squeezebox Touch instantly recognises the Meridian Director via USB, and plays such hi-res music files without issue. It also means that you don't have to use the supplied mains lead to power the Director - as this is taken care of by the USB connection.

Register the Director on the Meridian website and you'll obtain 3 months fee trial of the Tidal music streaming service - which is accessible on the Squeezebox Touch via the ickStream plug-in.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Right Tools for the Job, 2 Sept. 2014

I used this to change the standard drive in my daughter's MacBook Pro - for a Crucial M500 512GB SSD.

The work was problem-free, using these tools.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Do It!, 2 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Many converts espouse the merits of SSD, but until you make the necessary change yourself you simply cannot fully appreciate others' experience.

I changed the standard drive in my daughter's early 2011 MBP - for the Crucial M550 512GB.

Using the NewerTech Toolkit (from Amazon), the process is simple and straightforward.

Read/Write speeds have radically improved, from around 40Mb to typically 500Mb.
System startup has vastly improved, from around 2 minutes to just 7 seconds.
Whether it's MS Office or Adobe CS, apps open in moments.

My advice: if you can afford it, just do it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for Legacy Connections, 21 Mar. 2014

I have a nearly ten-year-old Apple Cinema Display with Firewire 400 output, but my latest Mac Mini has a Firewire 800 port.

This simple product bridges the gap between the two without issue.

Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great for adding extra ports., 21 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is for my fourth Mac Mini (now with USB 3.0 ports). The short lead that others complain about is more than adequate for the task at hand.

For the low price, this is a quality/well made product. It does what it's supposed to do without any fuss.

I would buy another without hesitation.

5.0 out of 5 stars Useful Addition to iPhone, 21 Mar. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This item is £70 in john Lewis, but I bought it on Amazon for £17. Bargain!

I use CoPilot Live on my iPhone 4S. Previously, I had been using a JBL Micro speaker for the sound output from the 4S while on the move. However, the TomTom Hands Free unit makes for a more practical/tidier solution.

Rock solid windscreen suction, without any 'wobble', is via a twist of the base: which just as easily releases it. Even with a substantial protective case on my iPhone, the fully adjustable holder on the TomTom provides a vice-like grip.

Sound output isn't as high as that produced by my JBL Micro but the TomTom sound output is more than adequate.

Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb Coffee Machine, 10 Jan. 2014
I already own a Bosch Tassimo T85 which I shall continue to use - but I also wanted a bean-to-cup machine after sampling the courtesy coffee at my local Waltrose. These are their standard Espresso beans, by the way.

I purchased the VeroCafe elsewhere, for £299. I haven't been disappointed with the VeroCafe, and have been able to easily recreate the superb coffee/chocolate taste combination experienced at Waitrose. It betters anything from well-known high street coffee establishments.

Set-up is straightforward, with three water temperature settings, variable coffee strength, plus cup size/capacity, alongside a variable coffee grinding setting. Although there is a test strip for your water hardness I consulted my local water authority's website for the details relevant to my postcode - and set the machine accordingly.

The ceramic grinders are very quiet. If required, two cups are brewed with a shot of coffee for each cup, rather than sharing one shot between two cups. Neat. The machine runs optimally after less than 30 seconds from switching on (including the steam wand). The machine self-cleans on switching off, and there is the option of adding a Brita water filter if required (but it's not compulsory).

The water tank is located on the one side of the VeroCafe, while ground coffee loading and access to the removeable brewing unit is also easily accessed for cleaning on the opposite side. The VeroCafe fits comfortably under standard/modern kitchen units. However, given the subsequent space between the top of the VeroCafe and the bottom of the wall units in my kitchen, hand feeding the coffee hopper (which is of the sealed variety, to keep the coffee fresh) is more practical than trying to pour contents from a sealed tin. Even so, pouring coffee beans from a 'pack' is much easier. Either way, either method of loading the hopper is simple enough.

You do need to initially experiment to obtain the correct combination of heat, coffee strength, and steam, but it's well worth the minimal effort for a few wasted cups. Both the coffee and the milk are hot, and can in no way be described as being tepid (as I have read about some other brands of coffee machine).

User tip: the user manual is not explicit enough on using the steam wand to generate frothy milk (which states that the wand be placed in the milk). Unless you ensure that the outlet/end of the steam wand touches the bottom of your milk jug/cup you run the risk of simply diluting the milk with hot water. The 'froth' is produced from an aperture in the middle of the steam wand.

I use Bodum Bistro Coffee Mugs to achieve the one-third milk, coffee and froth to perfection (which keep the coffee warm for some time). Although you can froth milk directly in the cup/glass, I have also purchased the Dualit Barista Coffee kit: the jug holds 320ml, which is more than ample for filling a tall latte glass.

Sure, the VeroCafe needs a little more attention than the Tassimo - in emptying the coffee grounds and the drip tray - but this is a trifling issue compared to enjoying a superb coffee at home with family.

My wife collects the works of Gervase Phinn. As a long-serving primary school teacher, she greatly appreciates such writing.

Once she starts one of these books it's difficult to get her to put it down.

This was one third of the price for the same card on sale in Tesco!

At that price, alongside SanDisk's reputation, how can you go wrong.
