5.0 out of 5 stars An absolute gem., 6 Nov 2014
This review is from: Detectorists [DVD] (DVD)
By far the best series on television for many a year. Superb piece of writing, acting and directing by Mackenzie Crook who works so well with the great Toby Jones. Wonderful moments spatter this series from start to finish and every cast member gives a perfect performance, it's brilliantly cast. The overriding theme for me is charm, from Lance and Andy's earnest conversations about University Challenge to the squeaky scout hut door. In this multi-channel world there are very few programmes that keep your eyes glued to the screen and leave you with a daft grin on your face but Detectorists is certainly one of them, an absolute gem, Mackenzie. the production team and cast should make a space on the shelf for a BAFTA.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really nice calendar., 27 Oct 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Really nice traditional advent calendar. Good quality card but not too thick that I couldn't get a drawing pin into to pin to wooden interior of boat. Supplied with a good envelope if sending to someone. As someone said elsewhere it did come in a large box not a flat package but I'm judging the calendar not the packaging! Worth the price tag after all you try making a good quality one like this yourself. Glad I purchased it..... them actually as I bought two versions! Merry Christmas!

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific film with a brilliant performance by Rebecca De Mornay ..., 2 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Terrific film with a brilliant performance by Rebecca De Mornay on a mission to seek revenge. Many films from this era have become weak because today's films are so high-tec and glossy but this film stands up due to the menace of Rebecca's character and the line, '...when push comes to shove, you can't even breath', is one of my favourite film moments. A good transfer and price at Amazon, great DVD.

These are fantastic. I only bought them to wear in hot weather, mainly indoors, to keep cool and they are so light you hardly know you've got them on. Nice and loose, comfortable and above all, cool!

1.0 out of 5 stars Do or dye!, 2 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Not one who enjoys writing bad reviews but there is a serious dye issue with this product, I suppose you could say, well, for this price what do you expect! I wore a pair for 4 hours and feet looked like I'd done a shift down a mine! Fair enough I thought, for the money etc, etc. I decided to wash every pair to remove the dye issue.........I hand- washed them FIVE times, a good rinse each time but after the fifth time the water was still a very dark 'blackberry colour. Not wishing to risk colouring everything else in the next machine wash I resigned these socks to the bin

4.0 out of 5 stars Chess King., 29 Jun 2014
I'm not a very good chess player, have managed to beat Houdini set to 1500 but that's about it, so yes, it's good for players new to the game and those who know the basics but want to improve. The training system is good as you have to earn the right to work your way through the challenges. I can understand this may be frustrating for more accomplished players. I find the layout pleasing, more so than say Fritz but, on a trivial note, it's a shame you can't personalise the board and pieces. The mega data base is useful as you can run the games by Houdini to find out why a player has resigned when it still, to a tyro, looks very far from over.On the whole very good and very addictive, one star knocked off for the lack of personalisation to the board and layout. Oh, you can personalise the sounds but I find it better to just turn the volume off altogether as they are awful!

3.0 out of 5 stars Good or bad?, 22 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Chose this product as my Humax developed a terminal fault ONE DAY after warranty expired! Still watch tv and anything saved to HDD but couldn't pause live tv or record anything, anyway, that's that. With this model, the price seemed ok, features ok. Having now received it it's....ok! Good clear picture with standard & HD. The remote wouldn't recognise my Toshiba tv so I'm back to two remotes - live with that. The biggest let down, especially coming from the Humax, is the on screen info and navigating around all the options; tv guide, what's ready to record, what's been recorded etc. It's very, very clunky and reminds me of the early Freeview boxes that cost a tenner, compared to the Humax it is terrible, with many of the Humax features missing. Having said that it records well with , good picture quality.
SUMMARY. If you have the cash, get the Humax for it's super-cool tv guide and quick response remote for on-screen info. If you haven't experienced a really good on-screen tv guide, this machine will do the job it's meant to do and you won't know any different!

5.0 out of 5 stars It's called the beauty of a book!, 13 Oct 2013
Why sit in front of a computer when you can enjoy dipping into this well layed out, informative, comprehensive, great value book? We don't all like staring at a computer screen all the time and this terrific book is ideal to have near the tv guide to get info on films old and new, which will help to make up your mind whether to watch or record something, it's helped me to catch films I would've normally dismissed. Well worth the money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great camera for the price., 28 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a revised review and although I still think it's a little heavy on the batteries the revised rating and comments are for the following reason. Yesterday, 3rd October 2013, I put this little camera through it's paces on the Severn Valley Railway's Diesel Gala Day. As the day went on it became gloomy and wet but the results in these difficult conditions are really, really good. This was a thorough test for the camera as many subjects were moving, in poor light and rain. The images were clear, crisp and with good colour. Flash shots worked well and even the 2 minute video was good. For a camera to just keep in your pocket, ideal.

5.0 out of 5 stars The hound that's almost human!, 5 Jun 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The title of this review is a phrase often used in the earlier Fred annuals, although being almost human could be looked on as an insult! Great fun on every page as Fred casts his wistful eye on his life, whether it's chasing off the birds, 'The little perishers', playing with the Tucker twins or escaping his masters piano playing, Fred's character hasn't changed since book 1 even if the drawing of him has. Thank goodness Michael Martin took up the pen from Alex Graham to continue this long running strip. I'm lucky enough to have collected all the annuals but still look forward to the next. Thank goodness the drawings are in black and white, there was a period when some annuals had colour mixed in but for me it didn't work.Well done Fred, here's to the next fifty!
