5.0 out of 5 stars An ideal gift for a young minecraft fan, 22 Nov 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great quality and ideal for any young gamers out there.

There is a useful raised zipped section for coins, a section for notes, 3 credit card slots, a clear slot for a pass/picture and another storage area.

The velcro fastening, zip and print look as though they should last.

All Our Yesterdays
All Our Yesterdays
by Cristin Terrill
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

3.0 out of 5 stars A futuristic teen novel, 18 Nov 2014
This review is from: All Our Yesterdays (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This starts promisingly but gets a bit repetitive in the middle. Its definitely more of a teen novel rather than an adult read although I do rather worry that today's teens seem to live on a diet of very dark reading material where they need to fight to survive! The ending is excellent and I loved the final stand off - I won't say more as it'll give the ending away.

Rocks in the Belly
Rocks in the Belly
by Jon Bauer
Edition: Paperback
Price: £8.92

5.0 out of 5 stars Dysfunctional families and jealousy - a disturbing and twisted tale, 31 Oct 2014
This review is from: Rocks in the Belly (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The story flits between Robert's time as an 8 year old and the present, where he is 28.

As an only child, 8 year old Robert is an angry, sad and twisted soul who is incredibly jealous of a boy that his mum is fostering. He doesn't understand his feelings and does a lot of antisocial things to express them.

Robert at 28 has to return home to his dying mother. He's selfish, immature and still very mixed up. The built up anger and resentment that he has about his ruined childhood is directed at random targets and just occasionally, his very vulnerable mother. This man really needs a shrink!

You have to wonder whose needs were being met when his mum fostered children and who was looking out for Robert, who clearly wasn't coping.

I can't believe this is a first novel - it was very well written, dark and unsettling.

Lovely thick cotton, in a very fashionable design. We bought several as presents - one was too big for the recipient but the seller exchanged sizes very quickly.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good price, won't last long, 31 Oct 2014

It lasted a month, which is longer than I expected at this price. Needs careful handling!

Useful if you're not sure whether to shell out on a more expensive headset or just want some peace and quiet for the school holidays!

Charlie Merrick's Misfits in Fouls, Friends, and Football
Charlie Merrick's Misfits in Fouls, Friends, and Football
by Dave Cousins
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

3.0 out of 5 stars Aimed at 6-8 year old football fans, 31 Oct 2014
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I thought this would be a perfect gift. This is one of those cartoon filled books, like David Walliams and the "Diary of a Wimpy Kid" but aimed at less mature readers - 6-8 years old, depending on their reading abilities. Unfortunately, my football mad 8.5 year old has paid it very little attention and thought it "too easy". I'd say it was perfect for children just starting to read books, and the text difficulty is similar to that found in the Horrid Henry series.

Black Heart Blue
Black Heart Blue
by Louisa Reid
Edition: Paperback
Price: £5.99

4.0 out of 5 stars Unsettling book, for older teens, 17 Oct 2014
This review is from: Black Heart Blue (Paperback)
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I was originally going to read this book with my 10 year old, assuming that like "Wonder" by RJ Palacio, it was about prejudices, people who are different and exclusion.

I'm so glad that I read it first - its not a book I'll be passing on for a few more years. The text is aimed at early teens but the issues raised are much more grown up - child abuse, rape, alcoholism, murder and loss. Cleverly constructed and quite disturbing at times. More suitable for a confident older teen who is happy to talk openly about the issues raised?
