Soldat: Reflections of a German Soldier, 15 Mar 2009
This book is all about the life and combat career of Siegfried Knappe during the 1930's and 40's - an interesting period in history, to say the least. Knappe reflects in great detail on an almost day-to-day basis on his experiences in the Wehrmacht across the main fronts of the 2nd world war including france 1940, russia 1941-1943, france 1944, berlin 1945.
His writing references his feelings at the time, his comrades and the many different peoples that he encounters on this epic journey of combat and personal discovery across the european continent at war.
A great read, which may come across as being close to fantasy at times - due to the extreme conditions that Mr Knappe was to endure and experience.
An insight into the life of a German soldier, a topic all too often and unfairly dismissed by the western allies after the 2nd world war.
