3.0 out of 5 stars OK I guess, but maybe time to call it a day ?, 28 Feb. 2015
This review is from: A Conspiracy Of Stars (Audio CD)
I've been a UFO fan for a LONG time now. However I have to say I'm afraid it's time they hang it up. No, I'm NOT expecting another "Lights Out", but other 70's bands have recently put out fresh original new albums; Specifically Deep Purple with Now What and Rush with Clockwork Angels. However UFO are more like ZZ Top, pretty much just treading the same old ground and not offering anything to get REALLY excited about.

As others have mentioned, Moore is just way out of place in this band, he never uses 1 note if he can fit in 4 or 5, that's just annoying unimpressive guitar wankery that I can hear down at Guitar Center any day of the week from the next Eddie VH wanna-be. The difference between the likes of Eddie and Randy Rhoads and the likes of VM is that they had an ear for MELODY that VM just doesn't have, he's just a shredder who doesn't know when to say when.

Phil's sounding old and tired, and there's just no real standouts, hasn't been for years.most songs are of similar tempo and pretty much any song from the last 4 or so albums wouldn't be out of place on any of them as they're all so generic and interchangeable.

3.0 out of 5 stars Their weakest album to date., 11 Nov. 2013
This review is from: New Horizon (Audio CD)
I think these guys peaked with Everyday Demons which was probably my favorite album that year. Revival was a wee bit of a letdown but how could it be anything but, Demons was so good.

But this is a further letdown still. Revival is better than this.

"Side 1" is pretty good but from Concrete all the way through White Flag (I have the bonus track edition) it pretty much is recycling ideas and good melodies and fresh ideas are in short supply, with the exception of "Call yourself a friend" and "Real as it gets".

Not every riff is worthy of having a song built around it, maybe if they had combined all their ideas into 10 songs rather than stretch out to 14 it might have made for a shorter album, but I'll take Quality over Quantity.

4.0 out of 5 stars Ah what might have been with Derek and Mick in the fold....., 30 Nov. 2012

Don't get me wrong I liked B&W and Graffitti Soul quite a bit. However what this set highlights are songs written with contributions from Derek and Mick, and I can't help but believe that had they stayed that Simple Minds would have followed U2 into Worldwide Megastardom.

But, back to this set : The band is sounding great, the songs are well recorded and it was great to re-live some of the Glasgow Tiffany's, Edinburgh NiteClub shows of my youth.

3.0 out of 5 stars The sound on the free-with-DVD version was better, 11 Nov. 2008

Why oh why did they feel they needed to turn up the volume ?

I was so looking forward to this full-show version, but they went and mucked with the sound to the point where it is noticeably distorted. Compare the songs on the DVD CD with this release and you'll see what i mean.

Another loudness-war victim.....

Those of us going to concerts pre-VCR days and only lucky enough to get an occasional clip on TOTP or PGWT aret he ones who will truly appreciate gems like this.

Yes, the sound is not up to the standards of 2007.

It's 30 year old low budget footage !

It's a godsend to us older fans to get stuff like this, and they did a very nice job by adding in the interviews, the 83 show and the extra audio CD.

There isn't a lot of Pro-Shot Lizzy footage around, be thankful we finally get this one.
