Blockbuster! The Best Of Sweet
Blockbuster! The Best Of Sweet
Price: £4.80

2.0 out of 5 stars The big hits from the 70's but way too much unrecognisable stuff, 26 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Bought this to replace a well-loved vinyl copy of "Sweet 16". It had most of those songs apart from "love is like oxygen" (later release date).
About half the remaining tracks were similar in vein to the "big hits", typical "Sweet" songs; but the rest were just "too different", I ended up fast forwarding through most of those.
Definitely not a replacement for my vinyl - I've only played it once and it's likely to go straight to the charity shop.

5.0 out of 5 stars Really comfy running show, 3 Mar. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Great shoe, and really comfy.
These are replacements for the same ones I bought last September (fitted with custom moulded insoles)
I've already run over 350 road miles in them, they are now starting to show signs of wear on the heel and toe edges.
Probably got another hundred or so miles (couple of months?) before the original ones need replacing...

iGridd - Number Logic Puzzles: Sudoku, Jigsaw, Greater/Less Than, Kakuro, Kenken, Futoshiki, Straights, Skyscraper, Binary: Volume 1

Edition: Paperback

4.0 out of 5 stars Good but not perfect, 7 Jan. 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Good - contains a wide variety of number logic puzzles, some already familiar, some less so.
The large (A4) format makes the book a bit unwieldy but also allows the inclusion of very large puzzles. Mine ended up rolled into a tube for most of the ones I've done so far.
The paper is good quality, which survives multiple rubbings-out (phew)

Bad - the instructions / tips for new puzzles are very limited, and there are only several "easy" ones to practice on / get familiar with before being introduced to larger / much more complex ones.
It also includes "skyscraper" and "binary" puzzles which although containing numbers aren't the same vein as the more familiar sudoko / killer soduko / kenken / greater than puzzles.

There's still more than enough in here to keep me entertained for a good few months

5.0 out of 5 stars Great earphones!, 10 Sept. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Used them the first time last night with my MP3 player while running. They are extremely comfortable to wear, and stayed in position during the run without needing any adjustments.
The sound was great, really clear.
Excellent value all round, very pleased with these.

5.0 out of 5 stars Olay Antiwrinkle day / night cream, 25 Jun. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Been using the Olay range for over 25 years, and the Anti Wrinkle Day & Night creams for the last 5 years or so.
I've either lucked in with the anti-ageing genes or they are doing their job as I don't have anywhere near the number of wrinkles of fine lines that most women my age do!
it's also nice to use (non greasy, leaves skin feeling soft) and isn't expensive.

3.0 out of 5 stars Don't judge a book by it's cover - nowhere near as useful as it looks!, 25 Nov. 2011
This review is from: Fishermen's Sweaters (Paperback)
I bought this on the basis of having seen "Aran knitting" in a bookshop by the same author, and hoped it would be to the same standard (eg a lengthy description of the history of fisherman's sweaters, lots of interesting designs, and so on).

I doubt I'll be making many (or any of) these designs. Why?
1) most patterns - with the exception of the one shown on the front cover, are in very dark and muted colours so it is almost impossible to tell what the design is. The models' poses also make it very difficult to see the pattern.
2) The patterns are knitted in the round which is the traditional method for guernseys - not my preference but it's simple enough to convert this type of pattern to a normal one for those knitters who can't abide knitting in the round! But most of them have shoulder strapswhich are knitted separate to the sleeves - strikes me as fiddly and therefore couldn't possibly be traditional (not according to my copy of Gladys Thompson's "Patterns for Guernseys, jerseys and Arans"). It greatly improves the fit where there isn't neck shaping - but would be simpler and faster to just put in some neck shaping (again, something which advanced knitters could do fairly easily)
3) The patterns are given in only one or two sizes (either men's or lady's, but not both). The patterns have plenty of ease, and are HUGE - they would completely drown out my small frame. Not being able to see the finished pattern clearly makes it difficult to design them smaller. Some patterns are only given in a single child's size (generally HUGE, but not quite large enough for me)
4) the necks are HUGE - as per the cover photo, they are almost all shown with the model wearing a scarf.
5) The patterns are almost exclusively using her own wool - no suggestion for subsitutes

I'm keeping it as a source book for ideas and techniques, to pair up with my Gladys Thompson book. And to remind myself not to buy books on impulse again!

The Times Ultimate Killer Su Doku (Times Su Doku)

5.0 out of 5 stars Thoroughly satisfying!, 2 May 2011
A collection of deadly and even more superdeadly killer sudukos, with target solving times from 1h through to over 2h.
The book starts with a few handy tips on how to find the first couple of numbers - was useful having these all pulled together in one place for easy reference.
The puzzles are all tough, and all hugely satisfying - whether they required several attempts to find the weak link, or could be cracked well within the time limits.

The book also includes lists of "solutions" for 2/3/4/5/6... numbers in a "cell". To be honest, if you're already doing deadly killer sudokus, you probably know these already. But other solvers may find these more useful than I did.

This is book 1 - I shall definitely get book 2 when it comes out

2.0 out of 5 stars Interesting but..., 20 Mar. 2011
An interesting mix of logic problems to expand your logic skills.
There are 4 types of puzzles - mosaic is "minesweeper" with a minor twist. Hashi and slitherlink are two variants on "join the dots". Hitori is a number grid where you have to remove the duplicates. The four types of puzzles use completely different reasoning skills, and different also to standard sudoku and its numerous variants.
My main complaint is that the instructions were very (too?) brief, I needed to refer to the solutions for the first couple of puzzles to understand the logic for ongoing puzzles.
I found the puzzles be more intuitive than standard sudoku (& variants). After completing a dozen or more examples of each one, I still hadn't understood the logic or the subtleties of each. As such I didnt have a feeling of achievement when I completed a puzzle - in comparison to when I crack a complicated sudoko variant on the first attempt!
The book held boredom at bay over several long haul flights but I shall stick to killer sudoku and extreme kenken in future...
