A sci-fi classic. Without Neuromancer there would be no Matrix, no Ready Player One, no Deus Ex, no Second Life (the list goes on...)

A must read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweeping, expansive, epic and lyrical, 31 Oct. 2014

A novel of breathtaking scope, with an effortless epic style that captures the spirit of a country. Without spoiling the book, Underworld weaves together individual threads of lives into the rich tapestry of history. Nowhere is this scope, this sense of shared history, encapsulated more than in the opening lines of the novel:

""He speaks in your voice, American, and there’s a shine in his eye that’s halfway hopeful.

It’s a school day, sure, but he’s nowhere near the classroom. He wants to be here instead, standing in the shadow of this old rust-hulk of a structure, and it’s hard to blame him — this metropolis of steel and concrete and flaky paint and cropped grass and enormous Chesterfield packs aslant on the scoreboards, a couple of cigarettes jutting from each.

Longing on a large scale is what makes history. This is just a kid with a local yearning but he is part of an assembling crowd, anonymous thousands off the buses and trains, people in narrow columns tramping over the swing bridge above the river, and even if they are not a migration or a revolution, some vast shaking of the soul, they bring with them the body heat of a great city and their own small day — men in fedoras and sailors on shore leave, the stray tumble of their thoughts, going to a game."

3.0 out of 5 stars Cheap and cheerful, full access to all ports - but not good for magnetic charging, 31 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Cheap and cheerful, bought as it was one of the few cases that were available and in stock. Positives are that it allows access to all ports, doesn't add much bulk to the phone and adds a bit of texture to the rear which makes it easier to hold the phone.

My one criticism stems from the fact that I use the magnetic charging port to charge my phone, which requires removing the case, since the cutout around the magnetic port prevents the charging cable from attaching properly.

I have since upgraded to the Case-Mate Tough Case for Xperia Z3, which I have also reviewed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great case, but not for those needing SIM/SD card access, 31 Oct. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
After making do with a cheap chinese case (whilst the Case-Mate was out of stock) for almost a month, my Case-Mate Tough case arrived this morning.

First impressions are very positive, the case consists of a soft rubber 'inner' case paired with a textured hard plastic 'outer' case, with cutouts or buttons for all the ports bar the Micro/SD slots. I am no expert, but I expect that this will really assist with minimising impact damage since the rubber inner case should dampen any shock.

I am particularly impressed that the left hand side of the case is kept largely free free so that the case doesn't interfere with using either the magnetic charging dock or a magnetic charging cable. My previous case had a cutout around the magnetic port, but the plastic rim prevented the magnetic cable from attaching properly, meaning that I had to remove the case to charge the phone via the magnetic port.

The buttons on the right hand side (power, volume and camera) do have overlay buttons (built into the case) which does mean you have to use a bit more force to press them - however on the positive side it makes it harder to accidentally trigger them.

The microSD/Sim slot is covered by the case, which may be a dealbreaker if you need to hotswap Sim cards or microSD cards (I personally don't) but on the plus side it probably assists with waterproofing as it prevents the plastic cover which protects those ports from coming open, leaving the microUSB port as the only part which is potentially vulnerable to water. Since I use magnetic charging, and therefore never open the protective flap over the microUSB port, this means that my phone should be fully protected against water at all times.

If you can live with stiffer buttons and not having ready access to the microSD/Sim slot, this is a great option.

5.0 out of 5 stars Protected iPhone 5 brilliantly..., 30 Oct. 2014

Perfectly protected my girlfriend's iPhone 5 in mint condition for over 2 years... despite being occasionally dropped and regularly being slung into a handbag with keys and all sorts of other dangers.

Now my girlfriend is considering upgrading to an iPhone 6, but only if she can find a case as good as this one!

5.0 out of 5 stars Worth buying a 3d TV for alone..., 30 Oct. 2014

Stunning cinematography, breathtaking 3d shots, enchanting narration.

For me, David Attenborough is THE voice of nature documentaries. His delivery, honed over decades, is perfect as always, and his expertise and passion for the natural world shines though in every word. The content never once fails to match the incredible quality of the visuals.

These films alone are worth buying a 3d tv for, and shows the full potential of the medium. Forget Avatar or Gravity - this is the real demo disc to wow your friends and neighbours with.

Read this after finding out about it in an interview with Oculus Rift founder Palmer Luckey. Great book and worth a read - particularly if you are a child of the 80s.

Perfect for frozen reverse spherification. I was initially sceptical about the size (seemed a little on the small size) but makes fantastic molecular ravioli.

For those that don't know, reverse spherification involves using an alginate bath, rather than a calcium lactate one, resulting in ravioli which remain stable after rinsing.

With regular spherification, the gelling reaction continues after rinsing, meaning you have to prepare you spheres right before serving.
