4.0 out of 5 stars Low power, high sync rates, but .., 9 Mar 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this to replace an ancient Netgear modem/router that I was using in bridge mode. It has a nice low power consumption (~4W if I remember correctly) and runs pretty cool, and also syncs at a faster rate to the exchange. Only downside is that the connection drops out more often, but this is just as likely to be an exchange / line quirk than any problem with this modem. Seems to work quitely happily in both PPPoE bridge mode as well as plain routed PPPoA. Some interesting advanced options to assign different ATM VCs to ethernet VLANs in there as well, but I don't have the opportunity to test those.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't support Freeview, 21 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Note that the "digital" in the title description doesn't apparently mean that the box supports digital TV - so not a lot of use in the UK, without connecting it up to an external Freeview decoder, at least.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great value, good quality, 26 Dec 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
These arrived very quickly (too quickly - I was planning on replacing two kitchen drawers after Christmas, but the speedy delivery meant I had to do it on Boxing Day!) Solid looking materials and design, much better than the tacky, plastic and now broken ones they are replacing. Instructions not entirely comprehensible, but to be honest common sense and a cordless drill/screwdriver are all that's required anyway. I'm not entirely sure the screw count was quite right in our pack but that didn't seem to be a problem. Only put them in today so cannot judge the longevity / robustness, but they feel reliable! Going to get another to replace a pull-out breakfast bar unit that we never use ...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good value, works with Linux, 8 Oct 2013
I bought this to use with my netbook so I could easily test new TV wiring that I'm installing around the house. It works great for that, I'm sure it would be fine for general purpose TV viewing too. Other people have reported problems with the bundled Windows software, the remote control, and the included antenna; I haven't used any of these so cannot comment. As one of the other reviewers mentions, to get this to work on Linux (Ubuntu 12.04 in my case), download the firmware from [...] , and rename it to /lib/firmware/dvb_nova_12mhz_b0.inp . You need to manually insmod smsdvb, or add it to /etc/modules.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant first novel, 18 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The City (Kindle Edition)
I had not come across this author before but followed an Amazon recommendation from one of my other favourite writers. I don't really know how to describe this other than to say, if you like fantasy of any sort, give this a go! There is a definite .. ethereal .. feel to the writing style which really helps set the mood.

1.0 out of 5 stars Didn't work, appalling build quality, 15 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Ordered two, neither worked out on arrival. I broke one trying to dismantle it, got the other one open. Build quality is dreadful, serious risk of shorts between contacts, tolerances on contact positioning are atrocious. I did eventually manage to fix the second one by moving the contacts with a sharp spike, and using a cable tester to ensure the positioning was correct. Do not order these. If you have, do not even think about using them until you having verified them with a cable tester - I'm not an expert on ethernet equipment but I imagine you might be able to damage it by connecting it one of these, if it were to short out the pairs.

Incidentally, these *are* simply a splitter (when they work), *not* a concentrator/combiner. I was aiming to use it for a situation where I have two devices that I want to share a connection with, but not at the same time. Though 100BASETX does in theory still support media sharing, I believe, so simultaneous use might work, albeit with a drop in throughput. Obviously not a recommended configuration, though.

Edit to add: CPC do a very reasonably priced USB-powered network switch. I've used that in the situation where I originally wanted to use this splitter, with perfect results.

Logitech C270 HD Webcam - Black
Logitech C270 HD Webcam - Black
Offered by King Of Gadgets UK

4.0 out of 5 stars Works fine on Linux (Ubuntu 12.04), 30 July 2013
It bought this as I was looking for a relatively cheap webcam that would work without hassles on Linux - and it does. I'm not an experienced enough webcam user to be able to say with the audio/video quality and sync is comparable with other models at the same price point, but it seems perfectly good enough to me. On one machine I had to delete my Skype settings (rm -r ~/.Skype) before it would notice the webcam, but another machine spotted it just fine, so probably an anomaly.

Canon PIXMA MG3150 All-in-One Colour Printer (Print, Copy, Scan, Wi-Fi and Auto Duplex)
Offered by Pearls Books

5.0 out of 5 stars No problems, mostly Linux compatible, 22 July 2013
I've only been using this a few days so far but thought I would jot down some notes. Print speed and quality all seem fine, though not tried photo printing yet. It's no louder than our previous Canon (MP272), and seems to do less "clunking and whirring" before and after printing .. while not exactly whisper quiet it seems perfectly reasonable for domestic use, especially given the price point.

Set up on Windows was easy. If your AP supports WPS you should be able to set up wireless operation that way - ours doesn't, but the setup process transferred the wifi settings from the computer to the printer over the USB cable, which you can then unplug (do choose wireless setup, not USB setup, even if you want to do things this way.)

We have a number of Linux machines in the house, too - all now running Ubuntu 12.04. The printer was found on the network automatically, but the driver included in Ubuntu only seemed to print in grayscale. Fortunately installing the very small driver off the Canon website fixed this quickly (do use the included 'install.sh' script to do the setup.)

Scanning works fine even over the wireless from the Windows machine but is a little problematic under Linux. The version of SANE in Ubuntu 12.04 doesn't detect the scanner, and even with an upgraded version scanning sometimes stalls with some applications. The ScangearMP app from the Canon site works reliably however, though it can be quite slow transferring data across the network. This isn't a problem either scanning wirelessly from Windows, or scanning over USB from Linux, so it is presumably a software problem. Doesn't seem like a major issue as you'd probably want to be using a machine close to the printer if you were scanning many pages.

Overall this looks like a great unit for domestic use, especially at the 40-50 price point, and works nearly perfectly with Linux too (Canon's software available here: [...]
