Very Disappointing Read, 14 April 2012
I had looked forward to reading this book, especially as my Grandfather was a distant cousin of Mr Wallace Hartley. However, I was totally disappointed for the following reasons:
Throughout, the author gives information described as 'Might or might have been', 'Could or could have been', 'probably this, that' etc. This continues throughout the book, which makes one think she is using nothing but guesswork.
Any information regarding Wallace Hartley's family, addresses where they lived, education establishments and places of work, are all easily accessed through the Census Documents, but nothing further is actually proved by the author.
She also goes to great lengths in describing the local history of places such as Leeds & Harrogate, which are okay, but not quite to the point of the book. I am just glad she did not indicate that Mr Hartley 'might' have been on Titanic.
