Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar 3rd ed
Basics of Biblical Greek Grammar 3rd ed
by William D. Mounce
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £32.99

5.0 out of 5 stars Simply the best!, 11 Dec. 2014

As that famous Greek scholar Tina Turner once said, this is "..simply the best, better than all the rest"!

Learning Koine Greek is never going to be easy, but Dr Mounce's BBG system is the easiest way to learn Biblical Greek. My advice, go the whole hog and get the flash cards, text book, work book and DVD, it will be an investment you and your family will never regret.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for every parent, 11 Dec. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A must have for every parent, and don't wait until the baby's born. You'll be pressurised from an indoctrinated medical profession from the pre-natal stage, and boy, when that little bundle of joy is born they'll be cueing up to inject him or her with enough toxins to destroy the child's immune system for life.

Very practical and trustworthy, Dr Mendelsohn covers every eventuality and give wise guidance for every ill.

3.0 out of 5 stars Abridged version?, 18 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Colin Davis' interpretation of this majestic work is pleasing and the LSO play beautifully, definitely the best performance of this ground breaking symphony I've heard.

So imagine my dismay to find bits missing from the first two movements!!!

10 out of 10 for conductor and orchestra and a very poor 2 out of 10 for the editor (a case of 'go away and try again!')

The first movement has a half bar completely missing just after the GP at figure 11 meaning there are just 4 second violin slurs before the first violin entry instead of 5. The 2nd movement has a whole beat missing just before figure 33 creating a lop sided 3/8 2/8 feel (this is Berlioz and not Tchaikovsky's famous lop sided waltz from his 6th symphony?!!)

What a pity one little man in a darkened room somewhere can ruin an otherwise wonderful performance, perhaps they should provide these poor fellas with a score so at least they know how it's supposed to go before they start snipping.

A disappointed 3 for the overall CD, no reflection on the superb musicians.

D :-)

Systematic theology: An Introduction to Biblical Doctrine
Systematic theology: An Introduction to Biblical Doctrine
by Wayne A. Grudem
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £30.52

5.0 out of 5 stars A Wonderful Introduction, un-put-downable, 6 July 2011
This impressive tome was a Father's Day gift from my wife and since receiving it neither I nor my wife have been able to put it down.

If you want an accessible introduction to systematic theology that excites you to learn more there is no better publication. Grudem has a way of communicating the gravity and wonder of the Word in layman's language (difficult theological terms are explained clearly as you go along).

It's been noted in other reviews that the author is strong in his opinions but I feel this is unfair (and perhaps a sign of our post-modern thinking), he merely states his own belief without apology whilst graciously explaining the counter-perspective with its strengths as well as its weaknesses.

You will never regret buying this book, it will give you a balanced view of scripture in every important doctrine you can imagine (and several you probably didn't know existed).

First Steps in Winemaking

5.0 out of 5 stars A true wine enthusiast!, 7 May 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
First Steps in Winemaking by C.J.J. Berry has to be one of the best buys on the market. Mr. Berry's enthusiasm is legendary, a man who truly loves the art of wine-making and infects others with his passion. This eminently readable book contains everything you could possibly wish to know about making wine from beginner to advanced 'show competitor'. Technical jargon is sparse and always thoroughly explained and Berry's ability to instill confidence in the novice wine maker even before he buys his first demijohn is testimony to his humility which is matched only by his consummate skill and many years of knowledge.

Don't buy any other book on wine making until you've read this publication, I assure you that you will need no other.

Thank you Mr. Berry!

Psychotherapy & Spirituality: Crossing the Line Between Therapy and Religion (Perspectives on Psychotherapy series)

1.0 out of 5 stars Ill informed and expensive!, 1 Jan. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book was recommended to me by my supervisor as an excellent study of spirituality in counselling, sadly it is not. I am a qualified counsellor working in the private sector with clients who have spiritual as well as psychological issues. Mr. West's book is an insult to the whole area, he is ignorant of his subject and has a clearly anti-Christian agenda seeping from every page.

I give him the credit due an experienced practitioner but cannot denounce this publication strongly enough. Mr. West's treatment of Judeo-Christian spirituality is ignorant and patronising, this coming from a man who obviously has not researched his material beyond that of sophistry and blunt personal opinion. Readers wishing to be enlightened in this important area are best advised to look elsewhere, 'Psychotherapy & Spirituality' is expensive and totally unhelpful.

5.0 out of 5 stars Just Wonderful, 18 Sept. 2007
This review is from: Symphonies (Audio CD)
As a retired classical musician having played with the UK's top orchestras I am probably the fussiest of customers.

This box set of my favourite composer's symphonies is not only fabulous value for money but of the very highest calibre.

The WDR Orchestra may not be familiar even to connoisseurs of classical music but they have the most wonderful wind and brass soloists. The astonishingly high standard of individual as well as section/ensemble playing is simply breathtaking. Back this up with the typically 'meaty' German string sound and Shostakovich's music comes to life with a freshness I have rarely heard both in my playing career and since.

If you like me are skeptical of low cost 'collections' please believe me when I say that you will never regret getting your hands on these recordings.
