not just another typical "funny" movie, 30 Jan. 2012
without going into too much detail about the movie, as I believe it is best left to the viewers own discretion, I was pleasently surprised by this film.
On the cover it is described by EMPIRE as "supremely funny..." Yes there are some smile to yourself moments but certainly not in terms of holding your sides funny.
John c reilly as expected, gives the protagonist of the movie human depth and like ability.
Forget the fact that Jonah hill is best known for roles where he plays a foulmouth baffoon, as his character in this movie is completely straight and alittle tragic without a wisecrack in sight, and is more brilliant for it.
Marisa Tomei is brilliant as the put upon mother trying to please everyone and adjusting to her new role as someone's steady girlfriend.
Overall this is a sweet, realistic movie about the complex dynamic of a dysfunctional family unit and learning to change.
