5.0 out of 5 stars An important and inspiring book, 1 July 2013
This edited anthology of poetry and prose, written by those who cope with anxiety and depression and those who care for them, is of interest to everyone, as one in four of us will experience mental ill health at some point. The pieces are interesting, inspiring, and enlightening, and all proceeds go to SANE and other mental health charities. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars A Great Seaside Read, 5 Oct 2009
This is a beautifully written, eminently readable account of the author's travels around the coast visiting as many beach huts as possible. The travelogue chapters are interspersed with those tracing the history of the bathing machine - which morphed into the beach hut - and the story of the development of the seaside holiday in general. If you are interested in any of these things I thoroughly recommend this book to you. A great holiday read!

4.0 out of 5 stars Animal Magic, 10 April 2008
I very much enjoyed this book. I loved Twigs' dry sense of humour and the tone in which she writes; many of the stories made me laugh out loud.

I have given the book four stars because I think that the illustrations don't do the text justice. It would be even better if there were reproductions of contemporary photographs, paintings and drawings of the animals who are such characters.

For example, Twigs writes about the Courtaulds' ring-tailed lemur, Mah-Jongg, who was infamous for biting people that he did not like. The couple included him in a formal oil-painting of themselves, and there is also a great photograph of him relaxing in his deckchair.

However, overall, this is a great little book, perfect for dipping into.
