1.0 out of 5 stars Ridiculous Schmaltzy Cheese, 13 Aug. 2008
This review is from: Backdraft [DVD] [1991] (DVD)
Typical Ron Howard rubbish. Managing to top his annoying persona of Ritchie Cunningham by making sickly sweet 'Go America' films of vomit inducing proportions. The fire is the best actor in this film trumping even Bobby De Nerio. Donald Sutherland is the mad fireman which is totally unconvincing as plot twists go as he is too old, avoid this film at all costs. Its trashy and amateur with heavy handed and too sugary characterisations and cheap special effects. Cheeeeeeeeeeeeesey!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Dog eggs!, 13 Aug. 2008
Yet another convoluted story full of peril where mr Cruise doesn't have the decency to give us an early screen and story exit via death. Is his big face on the cover? You bet your bum it is. Does he pretend badly all the way through as in every film? Oh yes. The story is nonsense, the directing and editing is amateur, the camera angles are silly. Mr Cruise is exceptionally bad in this film, why can't he give up 'acting' and just do something useful like organ donation. Maybe he could get himself abducted by aliens or something.

1.0 out of 5 stars I wish he was., 12 Aug. 2008
This review is from: Far And Away [DVD] [1992] (DVD)
What a lethal combination of sickly sweet Ron Howard 'magic' and Tom Cruise and his poor acting skills. Yet again you see quite clearly that he is pretending and not giving a convincing performance like a genuine actor would. Not that it matters in a tatty, amateur film like this romanticised depiction of the Irish invasion of America. Professional to the end, Nicole Kidman struggles to act well with her performance being dragged down by the sub drama school style of little Mr Cruise. Like with most Ron Howard films it is trashy, lacking depth and is just an excuse for an all American group hug. It makes me want to vomit. Also, Cruise survives all the way through to the credits, yet again, which is disappointing to all those who can't identify with him as a useful human being. Note again the big face in comparison to the subject of the film.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Goose! Get Cruise!, 11 Aug. 2008
This review is from: Top Gun [DVD] (DVD)
Why on earth this film is so popular I don't know. The bits with the planes are irrelevant and overlong. The story is shoe horned into places it shouldn't go, such as the 'sexy' teacher falling for the little 'maverick' pilot. The dead Goose scene should have been swapped for the dead Cruise scene for greater impact. The film would have been better balanced with Anthony Edwards (a proper actor) versus the Iceman Val Kilmer as they are of similar height, as it is we have the David and Goliath situation where yet again, against insurmountable odds, Tom comes up trumps. Note again the bigness of the face incomparison to the smallness of the planes, a common theme in Cruise films. I hope Tom Cruise makes a film where he is not in it all the way through, and learns how to pretend better, other actors do a far better job of convincing me they are someone else, but he doesn't. He can't act for toffee, but he seems well able to pretend badly and make loads of money! The world is wrong. Avoid this film, for planes in action check out Pearl Harbour instead.

1.0 out of 5 stars Strike me down!, 11 Aug. 2008
This review is from: Days Of Thunder [1990] [DVD] (DVD)
More trashy Cruise footage, same rubbish different theme. This is Top Gun but with cars. Mr macho Cruise, well as macho as you can be at 4'9", again puts himself in danger with an exciting possibilty of him being injured in a film but yet again another miraculous escape. The wheelchair bit is a straight ripoff of Talledega Nights, has this man no originality? Its a boring sport to make a film about anyway, driving round and around a loop all day, typically American, this film is schmaltzy and predictable. Look at the cover, its more about his big irritaing face than the cars.

1.0 out of 5 stars Give me the disease instead., 11 Aug. 2008
This review is from: The Cure Greatest Hits (Audio CD)
I cannot believe that they scooped together this many tunes to fill a CD by the whiney voiced big haired wet lipped shy thing. He sings all out of tune and flounces about like clothes without a person in them. Some of the tunes get in your head but its mostly inept teenage dirge with no substance. They are no Status Quo fo sho. Spend your money on something better like a Bartok syphony or Bong-ra or even Girls Aloud. Not this, this is not medicine, this is self inflicted whiney earache. I'm not buying this album to keep him in oversized shirts, hairspray and mascara, no.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guiness for the ears!, 11 Aug. 2008
One of the most over-hyped, self important, vacuous bands to make noise pollution ever. Oh but so many classics on this album. Who cares about this vehicle for a short stock hypocritcal talentless tike like Bonio. A millionaire lecturing us about the poor in the world and the environment when he flies a hat by plane to a gig where he is and his hat wasnt. What rot. Don't fund this silliness by buying into the U2 trap. They might have struck gold with this album but they have been rubbisher since and just mimic the same sound and repackage it as a new album, then release a new best of in between.

Much like Guinness, the famous welsh tipple, you either like it or you don't. I've tried many a pint of U2's sound in my ears and I do not like it, even without the duplicity of Bono's preaching and hypocrisy. The sound of these songs is irritating and cheap. Poor production masks the bad vocalisation and lyrical garnish as the betwangled guitar infused sound tries to cover poorly timed drumming and percussion.

On the whole, this album is a triumph, of how marketing can sell anything to anyone with the right backing. The BBC is now being criticised for how U2 have hijacked them for marketing of their new old sound. A bad show indeed.

1.0 out of 5 stars Waste of instruments., 11 Aug. 2008
Coldplay are going the same way Mike Yarwood did. He forgot who he was and had to impersonate himself which lead to all manner of problems. Coldplay have gone the same way after their catchy, like Ebola catchy, first hit Yellow. They cannot recapture that audio fluke and have been pursuing it relentlessly even into the very bowels of Chris Martins back passage. Maybe if they spent some time out of that passage they could start making music again instead of dreary soundalike pap. Get over yourself and do some proper tunes, and cheer up, how can they still be that miserable when duping so many people with a promise of a good album but never delivering for so long. I don't think it's unfair to compare them too U2, they are are annoying dreary guitar twangling regurgitators of the same formula dliuted over the years to a distinct sound but no content too.

1.0 out of 5 stars Space sand in my space gusset, 11 Aug. 2008
What merry business is this all about. Sandy spice rubbish, alien alienation again. Everyone knows aliens are not like they are depicted in here. Sting's acting is rubbish too, he ought to stick to what he did best which was ponce about with too much hairspray miming to sub reggae tinged guitar pop pap. This films only redeeming feature is that it goes off, eventually.

1.0 out of 5 stars How silly can you get?, 11 Aug. 2008
I don't know if this was a personal film of Mr Cruise or one that an actor has to do so he can do a better film as part of a deal, but this film is silly. If you value your time and your life you wouldn't and shouldn't waste those precious hours watching this funny little man picking up the martial arts as quick and as adeptly as he does, and better than his friends who grew up with it. I should have been paid to watch this drearly overlong fantasy as yet again Cruise tantalises us with being placed in peril only to survive against the odds. This is all well and good for his fans but what about those people who would like to see him fail or die a spectacular, and early, screen death in a film of his instead of boring us all the way through to the credits with his bad acting where you can tell he is only pretending at doing what he's doing in any scene he's in. He is silly and the film is silly. I think by just not watching this film, anybodys life will be extended by this films running time.
