4.0 out of 5 stars The latest definitive guide to where we all came from, 7 Dec 2003
A huge but highly readable work. Written in a slightly odd narrative style, but engaging none-the-less.
Brings fascinating insights from the very latest research both archaeological and genetic. Sprinkled with details of every day life from savage caves in Ice Age Britain, to the beginings of urban life in Turkey.
Some description could be of my own family with all the technology striped away, others represent something alien and disturbing compared to modern life.
Read it for study, or just dip into it a chapter at a time for surprising facts, you won't be disapointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars A quietly humourous read, 20 May 2003
A very relaxing book. Full of understated English humour, of a man sliding into a world beyond his control. The spies are human, full of flaws, and with their own personal agendas. The villains are barely villains at all, despite shootings and the background mentioned of dark torturings, but you can't help having sympathy for them none-the-less, due to Greene's ability to bring out the basic humanity in his characters.
A good read if a quiet chuckle is required at the absurdity of human constructs.
