5.0 out of 5 stars Magnificent, 7 Jan. 2014

This masterpiece contains staggering near-hallucinogenic and lyrical imagery unlike virtually any other film I've ever seen. Imagery once seen will remain with you forever. Breathtaking stuff that could only be improved upon if Amazon did the right thing and stopped their immoral tax avoiding strategies and started paying their staff a decent wage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wonderful collection, 7 Jan. 2014

Excellent quality and, 'the Prisoner' apart, the absolute epitome of eccentric UK TV '60's cool. Could only be improved by watching Steed and Emma kicking the butts of all those slimy tax-avoiding Amazon executives and forcing them to pay thie employees a decent wage.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great collection, 7 Jan. 2014

If, as WSB might say himself, you want to take a broad , general view of his recorded readings this is a fantastic collection. Personally I would have liked more cut-ups and maybe more from The Soft Machine but that's just griping as this is a wonderful collection of pieces that to my knowledge have mostly been unavailable for decades. Often thought provoking and jaw-achingly funny at the same time, this earns it's five stars with ease. The only down side is knowing Amazon go out of their way to avoid paying taxes due and don't know how to treat their distribution staff as valued employees.

5.0 out of 5 stars Superb collection, 7 Jan. 2014

This review is from: Travels (Paperback)
This is a truly superb collection of journal entries and magazine articles written by one of the greatest American writers of the 20th century. As to be expected of someone who loved the country his writing on Morocco is some of the best you will ever read on the place. It might even seem better if Amazon could stop it's disgraceful tax avoiding policies and also started treating it's staff less like indentured peasants and paid them a decent wage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Elegant and dreamy, 7 Jan. 2014

I'm a big fan of Popol Vuh and always think you can't have enough of their creativity around the house. At first I found this less than enthralled than many of the later albums but on subsequent listens it definitely works it's magic, especially the title track. It might sound even better if Amazon stopped try to weasel their way out of paying taxes in full and treated their staff more like human beings (not to mention paying them better).

4.0 out of 5 stars Patchy sound quality but some outstanding performances, 27 Oct. 2011
As you might imagine with a collection of live & studio tracks spanning several years the sound quality here varies widely. Unfortunately, for those like me who prefer their Quicksilver with Dino Valenti in the line-up, the 1970 selection probably has the poorest sound although the music is superb. I've read that much of this collection is supposedly available in better quality elsewhere but generally speaking it sounds good to my ears. The DVD is visually pretty poor quality although once again the music selection is great. In fact, my favourite music in the whole box set is the intense and sometimes overwhelming 1973 Winterland performance that features both John Cipollina and David Freiburg (on keyboards) back in a band boosted by an extra drummer and percussionist. Great Dino vocals plus superb, fiery Duncan and Cipollina guitar duels, all propelled by a seething, relentless wall of percussion deliver a great Quicksilver performance, topped by possibly THE most powerful version of 'Who Do You Love' I've ever heard. Visual quality of this performance is utterly dismal, foggy black and white but musically it's absolutely incredible. Just shut your eyes, turn it up and listen to some great, great music
