An absolutely riveting story, covering 3 periods in Russian history: 1917, 1939 and the 1960s. Fantastic plot, I couldn't work it out until the answers were revealed. You just have to read this!

4.0 out of 5 stars interesting fiction, 23 Nov. 2014

I wasn't sure I would like this book: different authors' stories of events, albeit with the common theme of the end of Pompeii. But I loved it. The different characters' lives, and deaths, were interwoven by the authors in their individual stories. A fantastic read.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 16 Nov. 2014

I have just finished this final book in the trilogy, and am exhausted. A totally brilliant book. I loved the way the characters have been interwoven into real historical events. At the fall of the Berlin Wall, and reunification of the families, I cried! Well done Ken Follett, yet again. Highly recommended.

Wow, what a book. I am exhausted. A book rarely makes me cry. This one did. Brilliant narrative in the context of Germany during the Second World War. Everyone must read this.

Loved this book. Creepy and odd and weird and so clever! I couldn't work it out until the end, which is as it should be. Totally brilliant.

This is a fantastic read, the quickest I have ever read a book. Un-put-downable! I knew the Dreyfus story but this fictionalised version is truly excellent. Loved all the details and characters.

Loved this book, a great continuation of Lionheart. I only knew the obvious part of Richard's life and nothing about his family. Such a broad, interesting interpretation of history. A great read!

5.0 out of 5 stars gripping!, 26 May 2014

Loved this book. It might have been fiction but it seemed horribly real. To see and "hear" Stalin was scary! And the ending was perfect, albeit sad, when the author cleverly helps you understand and ties up loose ends. Brilliant.

This is a fascinating retelling of a well known story. Even after all this time, there were still things I didn't know. Excellent book.

This is yet another brilliant read. It goes along so fast, almost too fast, that you don't want it to end.
