1.0 out of 5 stars A one-armed bandit!, 9 April 2014

Buyer beware! I downloaded this app as it looked fun. Had a few plays. No problems. However, when I tried to have another go a few days later, the app insisted that I "buy coins"! Fuhget 'bout it! (As our American cousins say).

Not the loudest but certainly effective. Had to download driver (not mentioned anywhere) and perform a reboot. Great fun when hubby was trying to watch football! But it was worth it. Nice, crisp audio. And for twelve quid - who is complaining?

5.0 out of 5 stars Masterly!, 13 Oct 2013

This review is from: Lincoln [DVD] (DVD)
Having struggled with Kearn's "Team of Rivals" (source for the script) and unenthusiastic Press reviews for this movie, I expected "Lincoln" to be filed under "worthy but dull". Anything but...

Terrific, visceral opening scene of hand to hand combat in the mud. Intelligent script that ranges from poetry to profanity to points of law. Outstanding acting and photography. Not a pretty chocolate box cover picture - lots of facial hair and facial imperfections. Dimly-lit indoor scenes and heavy, woollen costumes. One horrible shot of a mountain of amputated limbs. Used to regard as Day-Lewis as over-rated but he superb in this. As another reviewer remarked, he doesn't play Lincoln, he inhabits Lincoln.

The movie even manages to turn the voting on a bill into a thriller!

A masterwork that will last the test of time. In the same canon (no pun intended) as "Gettysburg".

5.0 out of 5 stars Rings my bell!, 22 April 2013

After enduring many missed deliveries due to old, unreliable, wired doorbell (that hated the cold!), I decided that enough was enough and bought this.

Had a few problems at first. Initial dispatch went astray. Then seller confused me with a customer who wanted to return an item! But it was all sorted in the end. (Seller is charming! He phoned me to apologise.) Replacement eventually came by Recorded Delivery and it works a treat. Good loud doorbell. Pushbutton part has a sticky adhesive strip. Just needs securing with a bit of sellotape. Only gripe is that instructions could be clearer.

4.0 out of 5 stars No complaints!, 15 Mar 2013

Arrived just three days after placing order. Really easy to assemble! No need for allen keys.

Unfortunately, screw-type bulbs have to be purchased separately. Even with a 100 watt bulb, lamp is not as bright as I was hoping for. Nevertheless, it looks good, takes up hardly any space and costs less than twenty quid (with free delivery!)

Ordered on Sunday night. Delivered Thursday morning!

Very pleased with this lightweight ladder. No assembly required. Folds up nicely and neatly. Makes changing lightbulbs a breeze rather than a death-defying chore! Excellent price too.

5.0 out of 5 stars O2rgasmic!, 12 Jan 2013

After a nightmare experience trying to connect to the Orange network and getting NO help from sim card seller or so-called "customer services" - spoke to EIGHT different people(!!!), I returned rubbish Orange sim cards (yes, I made two separate attempts using different sized cards) to seller and ordered an O2 one.

O2 card arrived promptly. Was up and running within minutes. Yahoo! Finally able to make and receive calls. Bliss! Couldn't care less about the more expensive O2 call charges compared with Orange. At least, I can make a phonecall with O2, unlike Orange!

1.0 out of 5 stars Trash!, 9 Jan 2013
This replacement(!) SIM card was FINALLY recognised by mobile but that's where the joy ended abruptly. "Activated" card on-line but still no text message received (detailing mobile phone number) over 24 hours later. Rang Customer Services but automated system is just an unhelpful loop (of a really, really, really irritating Essex girl's voice. Jesus, don't they know that the Spice Girls/TOWIE is "passe"!). After 5+ minutes on-hold, got through to "Ahmed". Finally got texted with a mobile phone number! Yahoo! Tried to load some credit onto it. "Orange Computer Down" - you couldn't make this up. Rang number (from another phone)to test it. "Customer unavailable" - what? Waited over 10 minutes to get through to Customer Services again. Got some anonymous Filipina. "Your Sim card is still being activated" - what? After 24+ hours! Totally unacceptable.

Have returned useless sim cards to Amazon Marketplace seller. Why isn't the mobile phone number listed on sim card (as happens with regular sim cards)? For sanity's sake, please avoid this rubbish network. Orange - more like turnip or brussels sprouts! Don't they want to make money in a recession? If so, why the unhelpful website - no customer service e-mail available. Says it all really!

5.0 out of 5 stars The Lioness Roars!, 30 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: At The BBC (Audio CD)
At first, I was tentative that this would be yet another cash-in on a deceased legend. But no, this boxset is superb!

The DVDs are heartbreaking to watch - the shy, gamine, pretty girl evolves into a sweary, grossly-tatooed, over made-up world-weary crooner with a ridiculous beehive. But what a voice! What feeling! The bonus ball for me was the CD - it blows "Lioness" into the water! Amy was the spiritual (and temporal) heir(ess) of Sarah Vaughan and Bessie Smith. And the "Arena" DVD is so wonderfully sad - Amy is so humble, apologises for being late(!), discusses her plans for Christmas and expouses on her relatively recent passion for jazz, all thanks to her brother playing Ray Charles in the next bedroom!

And thankfully, no distracting Mitch, Mark Ronson or assorted "partners" are filmed - just Amy and her fabulous musicians. A treat!

4.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful but flawed..., 30 Dec 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Fantastic little phone. Beautiful-looking.Immediate internet access. Loads of features. So why not 5 stars?

No USB cable supplied. No manual - you have to search on-line! Not user-friendly when typing. Keeps defaulting to lowercase which messes up passwords. And most maddening of all, doesn't make phone calls because it doesn't recognise an allegedly compatible (separately purchased) mini simcard. So frustrating!!!! Mobile phones are meant to have the quaint ability to make telephone calls after all. I have just wasted FIVE hours trying to get a mini simcard to work! Also no spare back (unlike the Galxy Ace). Considering the cost of this phone, I find this extremely mean.

And even more annoying, the wretched thing got locked onto the BT network (despite being linked to my Wi-Fi router). It took days to resolve the problem. All e-mails and internet sites were blocked during that period.
