Simply stunning, 9 Jun 2008
This is a truly amazing album, and shame on us in the UK that it is still relatively obscure here while having the huge success that it deserves elsewhere. From start to finish, Era is a tour de force of beautiful melodies, harmonies and rhythms, with every track deserving 5/5. It is also absolutely unique, somehow combining searing electric guitar with Gregorian chant - an unlikely mix that works perfectly. If you can imagine a cross between Stairway to Heaven and Enya you won't be far off.
Unlike virtually any other album, I find myself able to listen to this countless times without diminishing the enjoyment, and would rate it alongside Queen's Night at the Opera and Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon as a true classic. If you like either of these bands, then you will probably love this.
The two follow-up albums (Era II and The Mass) are very good, but if you're new to this band then this is the place to start.
