I have many copies of this great Christian classic and my copy of the Knox had fallen to pieces. It was a good translation for its time (eg 50 years ago)

by John H. Van Engen

5.0 out of 5 stars Major Work, 4 July 2011
Van Egen is the acknowledged expert on the History of the Devotio Moderna- a reforming movement in the Church in the Low Countries in the fifteenth century. In some ways this movement anticipated the reformation and influenced many people - not least through a Kempis' Imitation of Christ. But this book reveals more than we have known before of the way they lived and worked.

5.0 out of 5 stars Religious Madness, 4 July 2011
This is an excellent book well researched and reveals how extraordinary some people's view on religion can be.Jane Shaw was very fortunate to discover such a rich archive of material. The wider implications of what is described here need to be considered by all interested in matters of faith

1.0 out of 5 stars Sex and Spirituality, 3 Nov 2009
I was profoundly disappointed by this book. For years I have been looking for a writer who would examine the deep links between sex and prayer mysticism and spirituaty. There are deep psychological issues to be examined. Some expressions of faith especially in the charismatic world have deep sexual undertones. This book is a naive expression from a neo-fundamentalist posting which will meet the needs of very few. As a fairly intellectual ans firmly liberal Christian, I found nothing to reflect on in this book which it took a very short time to read. I do not rate this book at all.
