4.0 out of 5 stars Fuzzy Buzzard, 15 Feb. 2012
This review is from: Fuzzy Duck (Audio CD)
I just think it's great that we can live in a world where bands can have names like Fuzzy Duck, Spooky Tooth, Tucky Buzzard, Titus Groan, Mogul Thrash, Jody Grind, Thighbone Howl, Blodwyn Pig, Haystacks Balboa, Aardvark, Badger, Octopus, Toad and Toe Fat. Oh and this album is not bad at all!

4.0 out of 5 stars The Walrus Was Lol!, 29 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Ear Of Beholder (Audio CD)
A very cool, eclectic, diverse, funny and brilliant album from one of UK's most distinctive musicians. The real topper, however, is his cover version of "I Am the Walrus". One of the most bizarre, brilliant, psychedelic and hilarious Beatles covers ever. Sheer genius. So for that reason alone this album gets 4 stars. Thanks Lol!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Undiscovered excellence!, 19 Aug. 2011
This gorgeous album has slipped through the proverbial cracks and that is a tragedy. One of the best acoustic / vocal albums ever to come out of England. Fans of Sandy Denny, McGuinness Flint (1st two albums), Ian Matthews, Gay and Terry Woods - Tender Hooks, Fuschia, Eclection, Fotheringay, Rare Bird (Epic Forest, Born Again) and others, please take note: Here is an album you will play over and over and over. Note the cover version of Fotheringay "Peace in the End", an absolute beauty. Packed with great songs and exquisite production, Bored Civilians is a true classic. Snap this up at once!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very cool!!!, 5 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Get Down From The Tree! (Audio CD)
One of the best 60s re-issues I ever heard. Excellent Czech band from 60s and pristine remaster from the original tapes. At least fifteen of the songs (from their early period) are bloody great. For all fans of UK and US 60s fuzz guitar bands. Very recommended!

5.0 out of 5 stars Earth and Fire's best album, 28 July 2011
This is my favourite Earth and Fire album. A slight evolution from the first three excellent albums so it requires a shift in your sonic antennae. Once tuned in, however, the rewards are substantial. As melodic as ever, with lead singer Jerney Kaagman in top form plus the Koerts brothers' songs reaching a new level of intensity, maturity and power. This album goes quite deep on an emotional level and if you make the effort you will not be disappointed. Prepare yourself in optimum position between the speakers, get your head in the right space, turn off the phone, crank up the volume and whoa daddy happy flying...

5.0 out of 5 stars Bloody brilliant, 31 Mar. 2011

My favourite new find in a long long time. Obviously they are fans of Fleetwood Mac but they go much deeper. They have an additional psychedelic multi-coloured flavor and their own rich style with great and compelling songs. It all blends together very well to create something new and engaging. I can't stop playing this! very very recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Paradise!, 11 Dec. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
It goes without saying that it is impossible for a book like this to be 100% complete and accurate. Never mind, this one is damned close and the closest there will ever be. I cannot even imagine how Vernon did this. I would love to see his record collection! The scope of this book is beyond comprehension. It is simply a paradise for all fans of this area of music. There are countless surprises and trivia and bits of information on every page, including bios and interviews with artists, bands that are virtually "unknown". There are record listings here from the most obscure bands, albums and singles (The Amoeba from McAllen, Texas!) to famous artists like Beach Boys and Aerosmith. Pick a page at random, make a search or start at the beginning. Hours, weeks and months of fun and information. Omissions and mistakes have to be expected but send Vernon an email and he will update his database (which means we can expect a revised edition in 2015?!) If I had a coffee table, this would be on it for years to come. The mind boggles.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lo, Behold, Thankfully finally here!!! (with puzzling omissions), 25 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Apple Box Set (Audio CD)
Lo and Behold it finally happened. Thank the Apple Gods for this miracle. (Thank the Fabs for the miracle of Apple!) One of the best, most eclectic music collections of all time with 10-star albums of true brilliance such as Lomax, Troy, Hopkin - Earth Song and MJQ plus the great Tavener, Radha Krsna Temple, Preston and Taylor albums and of course two Badfinger classics. The re-mastering job is bloody amazing, vastly superior to the previous CDs from 1991. Not to mention special guest musicians/artists scattered throughout: Harrison, McCartney, Starr, Lennon, Clapton, Donovan, Stephen Stills, Nicky Hopkins, Klaus Voorman, Danny Thompson, Dave Cousins, Tony Visconti and more. !!
The proverbial icing on the proverbial cake is the "Thingumybob" single and the Ronnie Spector single "Try Some Buy Some", first time ever on CD. Hallelujah!
However, three annoying omissions:
-the b-side of "Thingumybob", the Black Dyke Mills cover of "Yellow Submarine"
-b-side of "Try Some Buy Some": "Tandoori Chicken"
-Ravi Shankar single "Joi Bangla"
None of these have ever been released on CD (Note, the Shankar b-side "Oh Bhagawan" was released in the Shankar 4 CD box In Celebration). Why were they not included on either the Best of Apple CD or the bonus CD? Baffling. These are all great songs and vinyl sounds so noisy so digital versions are very needed.
So let's pray to the Apple Gods for these three pieces to get a CD/digital release.
Regardless, this box set is an essential item.
Amen.

5.0 out of 5 stars Total Real Life Trip!, 28 Sept. 2010
This is a totally trippy experience. Places you right in the heart of Saigon with a wild variety of recordings and songs, lots of street and cafe music with cars, buses, motorbikes, bicycles, crowds of citizens and real life urban noise and ambiance. Traditional instruments, Casio, guitars, funeral brass band combos and much more weirdness. Highlights are singer Dylan Thanh's cover version of Bee Gees "I Started a Joke" and Clint Viet doing "Fistful of Dollars" on harmonica and electric keyboards. Also includes the hit "Rider in the Sky". One of the most psychedelic albums of all time!
