Windows 8.1 for Seniors In Easy Steps
Windows 8.1 for Seniors In Easy Steps

Edition: Paperback
Price: 9.89

3.0 out of 5 stars About to throw your laptop at the wall? This might help, 8 Aug 2014

Totally baffled by all those tiles on screen? This colourful guide helps shed some light for people changing from Windows XP. It goes through things that the designers (Who probably have singing dancing smart phones) assume you already knew. There are a lot of illustrations, covering things like playing a CD and how to download an application.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tim Marlow at the Courtauld, 15 Dec 2012

Tim Marlow is easy to listen to, and the disc has three 24 minute episodes. The series is obviously designed for showing with commercial breaks as it has a tendency to repeat itself during an episode. As well at looking at paintings like the fantastic "A Bar at the Folies-Bergere" he also give us a peek at the conservation department. One episode is particularly useful for explaining the meanings behind the religious works you might be tempted to hurry past.

5.0 out of 5 stars Andrew Marr, 10 Nov 2012

It's a set of engaging trips round and over Britain. If you didn't see 1) Britain From Above, it's a fascinating view from the sky. Remember those holiday trips abroad where you peered out of the plane window and were rewarded with a patchwork of fields or twinkling lights welcoming you home? Wallow in a whole programme that sees our country from above. Andrew Marr's commentary is excellent, though the music can sometimes be wearing. Nevertheless, one of the best documentaries of recent years.2)Darwin's Dangerous Idea, this is Darwin's ideas plus a wander into the realms of eugenics, ecology and habitat destruction.3)History of Modern Britain covers the period since the Second World War in Andrew Marr's engaging style presenting some facts behind the stories that were on the news and 4)The Making of Modern Britain goes further back, putting over some of the emotional rollercoaster and technological changes that people lived through, from Queen Victoria up to D-Day. It enabled me to better picture my grandmother in the crowd watching Queen Victoria's funeral and my grandfather watching the developments at Cable Street, both of which I knew they had been to, but had had trouble imagining.
An excellent boxed set.

I watched this when it was on originally, but had forgotten how strong the characterisation was. The striking thing is how many of the actors/actresses have been in major shows since. Whoever did the casting must have been someone with a good eye. The episodes are each based on a character or pair of characters linked to Mackintosh Textiles, a fictional Northern workplace full of banter and conflicts. Having whizzed through series one, I logged on ready to buy series two, but alas it's not out yet. Pity.

5.0 out of 5 stars Shoestring, 17 Oct 2011
Glad to know this is finally out on DVD after a long delay. When I last asked, it was held up due to copyright problems with all the radio tracks featured.
Shoestring is yet another troubled detective, but he deserves his place along with the other stressed tecs. He doodles to relieve his tensions, and Trevor Eve brings a nice depth to the character.

4.0 out of 5 stars Porridge Christmas Specials, 6 July 2010
Many comedies fall down on the Christmas special, when an extention to the normal running time highlights flaws in the scripts, or takes the characters out of their normal zone with disastrous results. This is not the case with this DVD. No Way Out has Fletcher trying to swing a stint in the prison hospital, but Harry Grout has friends on the outside who need a favour. The Desperate Hours has Fletcher and Godber looking forward to a Christmas drink. Things are bound to go wrong when Reg Unwin has visions of Christmas outside. Classic comedy.

4.0 out of 5 stars Tweet way to wake up, 6 July 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Despite initial problems wrestling the bulb out of the packaging, this proved easy to set up. The light is adjustable for brightness and looks good. I settled on the birdsong option. The tweeting gets a bit more frantic nearer to wake-up time, but I am not sure it would be enough to wake you without the light. The time display is reasonably clear for the short sighted to check on the time, but I find I have to turn it 45 degrees at night to stop its digital glow distracting me from sleep.
All in all, pretty good.

This isn't the most recent of David Attenborough's documentaries, but it's still good. If you've ever holidayed in the Med, it's a good way to wax nostalgic about some of the scenery.
