4.0 out of 5 stars No connection with the original 'Nesting' movie, 22 Oct 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Initially thought this a spin-off of the 'Nesting' film. Was surprised for the DVD box itself to be written in German when the DVD itself was in the English language. It was horrific and the 18 certificate is deserved. However there appeared to be no real 'connection' with the original 'Nesting' American film which is only available for use with a multi region DVD player. available for use in the UK region.

This was a present for, and despatched directly to a friend that has spent several holidays on the Ile de Re; due to poor health he won't be able to visit France again, this book was a fitting present as it brought great happiness and memories from happier times. The book arrived well packed, within the specified time period for delivery - my friend was happy and I have full confidence in dealing with the company again.

5.0 out of 5 stars Eight output splitter for satellite distribution installations, 8 July 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The active 8 way amplifier that I purchased was a replacement for a similar unit that had been in continuous use for 15 years - it was still working but as the receiving installation here was being totally renewed I thought it a good idea to renew that as well. The Chinese made unit is very reliable and I can recommend any engineer seeking an 8 way active splitter amplifier this unit. The UK importer -Global Invacom - had indicated that it may discontinue stocking the 8 way unit and it was only a search on Amazon that I discover the one I purchased.

Prostate Cancer: Understand, Prevent and Overcome
Prostate Cancer: Understand, Prevent and Overcome
by Jane A. Plant
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars Prostate Cancer - is there an answer?, 21 Jun 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Having had prostate cancer and treatment since 2009, the recent publicity that Prof. Jane Plant as created over her methodology of treating hormonal cancers [breast and prostate] interested me greatly. She discusses the background to prostate c, causes and treatment using natural rather than refined products comparing the very low prostate cancer levels in the far east Asia, China etc [not Hong Kong] that eat no or less refined food and rising to relatively high levels of prostate cancer incidence in both the USA and NZ. The UK doesn't reach such high levels as the latter 2. Jane Plant gives great detail in life changing ideas of eating, cutting out dairy products, no red meats and excluding additives, preservatives and chemicals, substituting with her own ideas of diet. She has fought and won 6 times against her own cancers and is currently [at the time of the book writing] on her 7th round!
A very interesting book, I would suggest essential reading by prostate patients, it does give hope and provide the information for you to fight it yourself and live to a much healthier life style. It supplements the usual range of drugs that are offered in traditional hospital cancer treatment. It must help!

Enemy At The Door - The Complete Series [DVD] [1978]
Enemy At The Door - The Complete Series [DVD] [1978]
Dvd ~ Alfred Burke
Price: £21.00

5.0 out of 5 stars Enemy at the Door, 6 Mar 2014

The mid-late 70s 'Enemy at the Door' dramatising the occupation of the Channel Islands mainly centred around a practising doctor was regarded as perhaps the best TV series in this genre [the other is the much later shot 'Island at War', a shorter series of 6 episodes] attempting to portray life both as an Island resident and also from a German viewpoint as occupying power. It runs for about 28 episodes and even after 2 complete viewings I find it exciting and captivating. [the other series is the much later shot 'Island at War', a shorter series of 6 episodes that also touched into the German/Jewish situation on the islands]. Both series featured episodes that would have taken an hour of ITV transmission time taking into account commercial breaks.
Unfortunately the 'Enemy at the Door' series didn't conclude with the end of WW2 and arrival of the British forces on the Ch. Islands in May 1945 which would have rounded off a landmark series - perhaps ITV had been intended to run a 3rd series but it never happened ??
Each episode has strands that continue into later episodes such as Doctor Martell's daughter with her 'killing' of a Luftwaffe officer and her eventual breakdown and removal to an island convent. Technically the editing is excellent but the colour quality appears diluted so there aren't vivid reds, greens etc. The DVD series has simply been dumped from master tapes so the 'into break' and 'out of break' captions are included which may perhaps punctuate continuity - the much later ITV 'Island at War' also includes the break caption [no commercials of course]
Of the 2 occupation series I would highly recommend the 'Enemy at the Door' that to me gives an indication of the day to day life during the German occupation, the lack of fuel, food, medical supplies and treatment.
Highly recommended, currently very attractively priced and compelling viewing - if you've been to any of the Channel Islands and seen the massive concrete defences/bunkers constructed by the Germans, this series really helps in a greater understanding of life between 1940-45 in the Islands.

Channel Islands at War
Channel Islands at War
by George Forty
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Germans on the Channel Islands, 30 Jan 2014

This review is from: Channel Islands at War (Paperback)
I have a great interest in the Ch Islands and the occupation period, having had many holidays on the 3 main islands. I was present when a new underground storage facility was discovered and for a perioed the public could enter. Nothing had been removed and all was as left by the Germans. Seeing equipment that had been or would be used was a moving experience. The George Forty book approaches the occupation from 'the other side' and details much of the men, the operation, attitudes and how some related to the local population. Pictures must have been digitally enhanced as the quality of some was remarkable. The military process of men, administration, the various sections of the forces, information on the major gun and emplacement locations, a captivating read and study. I highly recommend this book to anyone interested in the subject of WW2, the Channel Islands be they a student, a local resident or a visitor.

I'd hunted in all the 'usual' UK supplement lisitings without success. I ignore Holland & Barratt due to their extortinate pricing [ for example Vitimin E tablets [strength 400iu] ae 3 times the price as Superdrug!].Checking out Amazon found exactly what I wanted, price OK, ordered and tablets arrived within the suggested time scale, well packed. I've had 'Nature's Way' supplements before and would be happy to recommend them to others thinking of using this company.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Wartime Service that is more of a Secret Service, 18 May 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book details the lives of the convert operators that monitored German and Japanese communications, usually coded, and both decoded their transmissions and for the overseas operators, forwarded the information to Bletchley Park. Most operators came under the official secrets act and therefore have been unable to discuss their WW2 activities, even to this day.
The book tells of the training, where they operated from both across the UK and overseas, both on land and on small islands in the tropics. Many names are included and tells of the long nights monitoring the enemy transmissions, it goes into their social life and of the various bases that they were stationed at. The volume follows from pre WW2 right through until the later 1940s when they were gradually demobbed! It isn't a technical book as such, its more of a social account of the operators, their lives and how they managed to maintain their monitoring activities and provided immense help in bringing WW2 to an earlier closure.
An interesting book but not for those seeking technical details of equipment.
