Willem de Kooning - Paintings
Willem de Kooning - Paintings
by David Sylvester
Edition: Hardcover

5.0 out of 5 stars A great overview of de Kooning's work, 8 Jun 2011
David Sylvester has nailed it here with intellegent essays and a mix of black and white and colour prints of de Kooning's work. There are also photographs of de Koonings studio and a far bit of writing explaining him and his work throughout his many years of making art. Definately worth every penny.

3.0 out of 5 stars Lack of basic colour techniques, 8 Jun 2011
This review is from: Colour Mixing Bible (Paperback)
This book is my all means a bible of colour, and it is perfectly laid out. However, it doesnt show you how to use the primary colours to make the mass about of different colours but instead how to use ready made colours together. This is highly annoying when all that is needed is the 3 primary colours. I would recommned this to anyone who uses a set of 12 ready made colours but not for someone who only uses the 3 primaries.

5.0 out of 5 stars What a dream!, 19 May 2010
This review is from: Pictures (Hardcover)
A book to eliminate all rainy days. The reviews and comments on this book already do it justice, and the extra protective layer just adds more glory to this delicious book. Even if you are not into fashion photography, this book has such beautiful pages, and the photographs hold such wonderful colour and composition that all should be able to admire Tim Walker's imagination.

5.0 out of 5 stars And this is what I payed for?, 19 May 2010
After buying this book at a book store, it is definitely not worth the £40 spent. This is just another collection of drawings that quite frankly, any one with an unstable hand can draw. They hold an energy and the paper is beautifully delight. But I would not recommend this, it just seems like another way to make a bit of money.

Brutally truthful, wonderfully printed pages and the colour is just breathtaking. This is by far the best Nan Goldin book that i have come across.

5.0 out of 5 stars The only contemporary painting book needed., 19 May 2010
the pages are clean cut, and the information is clear. Apart from the fact that this isn't hardback, this book is constantly in regular use. Buy it before you regret it, you'll wonder what you ever did without it.

Cecily Brown
Cecily Brown

5.0 out of 5 stars A surprise inside, 19 May 2010
This review is from: Cecily Brown (Hardcover)
After knowing little about Brown's work, it was surprising to see how much work is by the artist that is under 30! Much like the other book from Rizzoli International Publications, the pages are luscious and close up of the paintings that are spread over double pages. If there were a little more information or articles on the artist that would make this book perfect, but with the endless pages of stunning/shocking work, who cares about reading.

5.0 out of 5 stars a life long asset, 19 May 2010
This review is from: Jenny Saville (Hardcover)
This is quite a late review, as I purchased this book 2 years ago. After reading the mix reviews, it is clear that this book is not appreciated by all. As a student studying painting this book has become a bible to me because of the large double page spreads of detailing and intense brushwork. The articles at the front of the book has helped me to understand her more as an Artist, and if anything the book has made me gasp at her work when seen in the flesh. For any one who can admire the beauty of the brushstroke, and the intriguing subject matter, this book is by far a life long investment.
