5.0 out of 5 stars A brilliant re-discovery!, 26 May 2004
This review is from: Judee Sill (Audio CD)
Judee Sill is one of the great lost talents - died an early death, leaving just this album and "Heartfood" behind her - the USA's answer to Nick Drake?
Wonderful songs, beautifully sung and brilliantly arranged - once heard, never forgotten - a mixture of Country and Western and J.S. Bach.

5.0 out of 5 stars Magical!, 16 Feb 2004
This review is from: Heart Food (Audio CD)
I first heard Judee Sill in 1973 and bought her LPs on Asylum. A few years later, while browsing through a music reference book, I was distraught to find that she'd died of a heroin overdose. Her first, self-titled album is wonderful - "Heartfood" is sublime. The imagery in the lyrics is highly spiritual - though she herself denied that they were 'Christian' as such. The melodies are exquisite, and her vocal delivery lovely. I rate one particular track, "The Kiss", as one of the best three songs ever written, and it's going to be played at my funeral (along with Fairport Convention's "Who Knows Where The Time Goes" and "Complete Control" by the Clash - eclectic or what!).
Lovely music and beautiful vocals - this album will enhance your life!

2.0 out of 5 stars OK if you live in the USA - but not much use for anyone else, 16 Feb 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Antiquing For Dummies (Paperback)
Like all the "...for Dummies" books, this is entertaining, interesting adn a good read. However, it really is useful to USA residents only - there's precious little in it about antiques that the collector would find in Europe. For example, there's pages on obscure American glass-makers. Put simply, if you live in the USA and want a good introductory book this would be ideal - but if you don't live in the USA then it's of very little use.

4.0 out of 5 stars From the horse's mouth..., 16 Feb 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is actually a very interesting book, especially as it's the only offically sanctioned one. A lot of the stuff about e-Bay is dated, but there's a really useful section on finding stuff and bargaining with dealers. Also some interesting stuff on the early days of e-Bay which I'd not read before.

2.0 out of 5 stars E-Bay for Dummies - outdated, 16 Feb 2004
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: eBay For Dummies (Paperback)
Like all the "...for Dummies" books, this is clear, entertaining and a good read. Things are changing so quickly on e-Bay, however, that it's already very dated. There's some nice personal stories, but it's all very 'American' - it focuses soleley on the US experience with just a passing reference to other countries in the world. All-in-all, not recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars The best antique guide for amateurs!, 13 Mar 2003
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is an amazingly useful and interesting book for amateur antique collectors. It's full of pictures of antiques and fascinating asides about porcelain, furniture, japanese sword hilts, etc., all laid out in full colour.
The core information is about prices, of course - everyone wants to know what their item is worth!
It's a great book to browse through, and I've already bought another copy to give as a present.
All-in-all, highly reccomended!
