5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, 10 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This is a perfect little goblin to have at home. Easy to use, easy to pack away. Handled sewing thick club badges on a thick karate uniform- that's relatively heavy duty work, handled easily. The missus loves it too- bang on the money.

Doctor, His Patient and the Illness
Doctor, His Patient and the Illness

3.0 out of 5 stars A great book, but not the first read for a GP trainee., 10 Nov. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A great book for understanding patient interaction and behaviour; it is however not a very easy read... it's one of those books that doesn't directly give you the skills as in 'how' and 'what'; rather, as you read on it subliminally imparts to you the mindset you should be developing.
For a GP trainee, Neighbour's 'Inner Consultation' is a better place to start building consultation skills; Neighbour immediately starts to impart the skills and tricks from day 1. I'll go back to Balint much later, when my CSA is done and the big bucks are rolling in, and I have those nights and weekends to myself (fingers crossed).

5.0 out of 5 stars Great product, 10 Nov. 2012

Great product for the price- looks fab, works a dream. No issues in the months we've had it. And the defrost setting turns a frozen slice to a lovely crispy slice in a jiffy!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lovely, 10 Nov. 2012

My 3 year old (who is a Clubhouse addict) simply loves it! Had help the first day, and since then brings it out 3-4 times a day to scramble and arrange by herself, and very proud she is!
It is large, with big hard-to-lose pieces. And the fact that it is too big to be arranged on the box is a definite plus- helps her spatial coordination and memory skills. I'm waiting for the novelty to wear off before I buy another Ravensburger floor puzzle!

1.0 out of 5 stars Not impressed., 1 Sept. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This book is about a kid who is about to go to bed and is visited by many 'friends'.
In reality there is little or no text or dialogue. Each page is crammed with a myriad of sketchily drawn characters, which multiply in number by the page; by the end there is a confusing host of dressed mice, flying mice, mice driving buses, little trains, half-eaten bananas, creatures hanging and popping out of every nook and cranny... Impossible to make any useful sense of for my 3 year old.
I don't know what's a 'hit' about this, but we read it once and I put it away for good. Not good, this book. Not at all.

2.0 out of 5 stars Troublesome WiFi, 26 Oct. 2011
Bought this printer at half-price, and my primary motive was the wireless connectivity. Was fiddly to set up at first, had to connect it to my laptop via USB. A few weeks later the wi-fi connection became intermittent, and then non-existent.
Every simple print job turned to 1. try printing-"error" again 2.carry the laptop up to the printer and connect it by USB to run the troubleshooting CD (can't troubleshoot this one wirelessly) 3. give up after 15 mins and print via USB, the old way. Last time I determinedly spent an hour troubleshooting; it asked me to alter the network properties AND find a static IP address AND change the wireless adaptor settings AND alter my firewall settings AND change the gateway server thingie AND bake it a fairy cupcake...
I gave up and sent it back- life is too short.
Got me summat different, which I set up wirelessly without even connecting to the laptop, and which was cheaper and has AirPrint. Oh yes, you can.

The Owl Killers
The Owl Killers

2.0 out of 5 stars Not the same quality as 'Company of Liars', 12 Dec. 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Owl Killers (Paperback)
I bought this book after reading 'Company of Liars', which was a great book. Alas, the 'Owl Killers' has turned out to be a big disappointment.
The unnecessary multiple first-person narrative made the tale cumbersome and unwieldy, and some characters were either poorly fleshed-out and half-constructed (e.g. Gudrun), or wholly unnecessary to the tale(Pisspuddle & family).
Where 'Company of Liars' was full of intrigue, innuendo and suspense covered with a healthy patina of medieval superstition, THIS tale was merely wading through dense, murky waters of witchery and fantasy, expecting the reader to be as ignorant as the villagers.
The story lacks suspense, has no clear driving plot and ends flat on a ridiculous anticlimax. Did Karen Maitland really expect me to believe in a living, breathing Owlman, and enjoy this lazy fiction? Not me. She was supposed to carry me above the superstition, close enough to feel and touch the characters, smell their fears and laugh at their beliefs, and not expect me to dive in and look over my shoulder expecting a half-bird half-man to come swooping out of the sky to eat my flesh.
Arrant rubbish- won't be buying the next book.

Applied Surgical Physiology Vivas

2.0 out of 5 stars Not entirely necessary., 19 May 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I bought this for my MRCS, but the exam has since been revised, and there is NO pure physiology featured in the exam. Most of the stuff here is a duplicate of Kanani's other book- Surgical Critical Care Vivas; besides the Critical Care is all you need.
Perhaps it's useful for other exams...

The Closed Treatment of Common Fractures
The Closed Treatment of Common Fractures
by John Charnley
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Manual, 19 May 2010
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
An excellent book to own- a MUST for every orthopaedic trainee.
A word of warning though- it was written before most current fixation techniques were developed, and as a result a good many of the concepts here are dated- i.e. Charnley describes closed or manipulative management of fractures that would nowadays be treated by operative fixation.
Nonetheless, this is the very Gospel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent, 30 Aug. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
We bought this after using a Medela Harmony handheld pump, which fell apart (rubber valves got torn) after only 4 weeks. If you need to express constantly like we did- our little one just wouldn't suckle directly- then you need a 'hospital-grade' pump, and this is the one to buy.

The handheld ones may be good for casual users, but for regular users the moving parts will soon wear out, valves tear and rubber bits fray; and as we found out, replacement parts are a nightmare to obtain. There are other 'hospital grade' pumps out there, but they're all much more expensive than this one- mainly because of all the bells and whistles which you're not likely to need anyway.

We used this regularly, twice a day, for 7 months without a single complaint. It's in the loft now, awaiting the next li'l 'un. Top marks for price, top marks for function, this is the pump for the regular user.
