This book deserves five stars for its integrity. It whole heartedly fits into the Gears of War mythos, fleshing out those characters that we have come to love through the games, and the previous Karen Traviss novels. Chronologically this book precedes the other four books and leads right up to the start of the original Gears of War game. WARNING: Although a prequel to the games and the other books, the events detailed in this book unearth quite a number of COG classified and personal character secrets; presenting a maelstrom of difficult choices with no black and white answers for any of the characters.
Beautifully written, and well worth the journey.

5.0 out of 5 stars A very useful app for monitoring battery life, 22 Nov 2012

A previous comment about the price being quite high for removing the advertising is interesting, but my view is that you pay your money, or not, and take your choice. This is a great little app, with or without the adverts, and is visually appealing, as well as having a number of configurable options. The designers would no doubt like to make some money from their intellectual property and I am quite happy to pay under £1.50 for a practical app so that I don't have to keep dodging adverts.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing, 2 May 2003
I was inspired to buy this game by the trailer on the XBox website. It looked atmospheric and dynamic. However, I have since discovered that more effort appears to have been put into the interlinking movies than into the game play. The in-game graphics are alright, but nothing compared to what the XBox is capable of handling. There is no training package in the game, something that I was disappointed with as it means that you go into the game cold, not knowing what the limitations of the character's abilities or equipment are.
I have to confess, that I have not progressed very far with the game as I keep getting fed up with re-starting because the character fell off the building, once again, whilst trying to manoevre it into the right position. I was expecting a game with all the fluidity and dynamism of Spiderman - The Movie, but with a more involved plot. It may well have the latter if you can be bothered to persevere with it, but it certainly does not have that same sense of 'being there'. This is a game that I will probably attempt again when I have finished all the other games in my collection.

5.0 out of 5 stars A complement to the BBC dramatisation of Tolkiens's epic., 2 Jan 2002
This audio CD is something that will appeal to fans and non-fans alike. Well constructed with excerpts from the Beeb's dramatisation of Tolkien's masterpiece, The Lord of the Rings, it also contains interviews with people that he grew up with and worked with as well as with the man himself. Well researched, very informative and beautifully compiled, this is a biography in just under two hours, contained on two CD's, and at a very reasonable price.
If you want to find out what inspired Tolkien to write The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings and his reasoning behind The Silmarillion, then this is a a good place start. There may be more of a Hobbit about you than you realise! If you own a copy of the Beeb's 'Lord of the Rings' then this makes a excellent suplemental piece. If you have never read any of Tolkien's works this might just inspire you to do so.
