4.0 out of 5 stars Cradle start to regain their composure, 11 July 2015
This review is from: Hammer of the Witches (Audio CD)
Maybe it sounds trivial to some but the cover art alone convinced me this will be better.Manticore had the cheesiest most unpleasant cover design, like some Anne Summers catalogue, but this one has a cover design to stand with the first three albums.Long have they been a band many love to hate, partly due to top shop goth imagery and plastic sound, but just maybe this will help them gain back some respect.Musically it's not far from their usual fare but somehow more concise, sharper, more fleet of foot, less crowded and makes for a more flowing feel,a feel that somehow does remind of the 'old days'.Not so different but different enough and consistent. With Paradise Lost,My Dying Bride,Anathema (in a different ballpark now) and Cradle all producing credible music over twenty years since their first releases, the 90's UK dark metal pack is aging well.

Ok they aren't doing anything new but I love it.Still the best at power metal for me.The energy they have makes many younger bands sound past it.

These guys just keep churning out albums.Even their supposedly weak albums are still pretty good to me. Along with Napalm Death and Killing Joke they have become one of the UK's most reliable purveyors of quality heaviness. Gold stars all round.

Post grunge Poison. What did they do?They hired some gospel singers and and had a shrunken head on the cover.Maybe they got a bit more bluesy sounding but they didn't go grunge,or anything supposedly success hunting 'poseur' bands are supposed to do.It's pretty much Poison a bit less shiny.Reminds of Primal Scream in a way.I like it,it's still fun.

A weird compilation, some demo tracks (demos don't always sound better than originals!) some later tracks. The great tracks are excellent, sleaze rock excellence but it makes you want the original albums etc.PBF nailed the image so well and had a nice line in catchy songs at their peak.

I just love this album, such goodness is in the songs, yet it still rocks but in a way that's easy to listen too.

No original members but still a fine slice of L.A. rock, touching on Cult territory at time more than the the glam of old,

More glam bam thank you mam excellence. They manage to make their influences obvious yet sound like something new such is their conviction in how great this music can be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Come on Sweden you must have some rubbish bands, where do you hide them, 18 May 2015

What the flip is up with Sweden. Not happy with producing definitive bands in so many areas of music for so long they just keep providing more. Abba, bathory, candlemass, opeth, hardcore superstar, europe, cardigans, katatonia, dark tranquility, entombed, marduk, backyard babies, enforcer, robyn, crashdiet, casablanca(Sweden based at least),ghost, tribulation,in solitude, morbus chron, watain, arch enemy...you get the idea,it's crazy. They are making everyone else look bad. Nubian Rose cover the more melodic hard rock rob halford goes tina turner area so well they don't really have to worry about the competition. Sofia doesn't really sound like anyone else really though,in a good way,it's so good to hear something that doesn't sound like another tribute band.. They just work on all levels.

Great album.Like Faster Pussycat got drunk on Halloween, fell in Marilyn Manson's boiling pan of absinthe and went back to L.A. to party it off.
