5.0 out of 5 stars Faith in good music now restored!, 23 Jun 2008
This has restored my faith in peoples ability to write superb music again.

There has not been (in my opinion) any top quality CDs for quite some time now. Nostradamus is quite simply a masterpiece of rock music. I believe that in years to come this will be seen as JPs magnum opus.

Long may they continue to write music this good.

5.0 out of 5 stars Poirot peaks, 5 May 2008
This collection contains the following;

The complete season 5 (1993)

The adventure of the Egytian tomb
The underdog
The yellow iris
The case of the missing will
The adventure of the Italian Nobleman
The chocolate box
Dead man's mirror
Jewel robery at the Grand Metropolitan

2 hour Specials (1995 to 2000)

Hecule Poirot's Christmas (part 1 and 2)
Hickory Dickory Dock (part 1 and 2)
Murder on the Links (part 1 and 2)
Dumb Witness (part 1 and 2)

These episodes are what some would call early TV Poirot, as after these the show takes on a darker feel. However Poirot is a joy to watch from beginning to end in my opinion. I hope that Suchet is allowed to complete all Poirot's stories as his portrayal is the best ever attempted.

5.0 out of 5 stars Poirot reaches new heights, 5 May 2008
This 3rd collection features the following;

The last four episodes from series 3 (1991)

The mystery of the Spanish chest
The theft of the royal ruby
The affair at the victory ball
The mystery of Hunetr's Lodge

The complete series 4 (1992)

The ABC murders (part 1 and 2)
Death in the clouds (part 1 and 2)
One, two, buckle my shoe (part 1 and 2)

These episodes show Suchet et al at their best. The script, acting and photography are nothing short of superb. The ABC murders and Death in the clouds being prime examples of drama done well.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poirot's 2 hour specials, 5 May 2008
This box collection contains;

The murder of Roger Ackroyd
Lord Edgeware dies
Murder in Mesopotamia
Evil under the sun
Five little pigs
The hollow
Sad Cypress
Death on the Nile

These were originally broadcast between 2000 and 2004.

Some are better than others, however they are all beautifully shot and well acted.

Suchet still shines as Poirot, and is a joy to watch.

4.0 out of 5 stars Poirot's change in direction, 4 May 2008
The 2006 feature length episodes;

The Blue train
Cards on the table
Taken at the flood
After the funeral

Great stories, but the change of direction to a slightly darker feel may not be for all fans of the earlier stories where the tone was lighter with some subtle humour in.

However, Suchet has his firm hold on the character of Poirot and is a delight to watch.

I am looking forward to the next four installments due for 2008;

Titles rumoured to be;

Mrs. McGinty's Dead
Cat amoung the pigeons?
Hallowe'en Party
Third Girl

I suspect that these will follow a similar trend of 2 hour specials with the darker feel. It would be nice if they had the original theme music and Hastings/Japp/Lemon featured with a little lite interplay between the main characters...

The final four episodes are on the next collection box 3.

Again Suchet develops his total grip on the character of Poirot, and the series goes from strength to stength.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good Old School Kung Fu, 12 Feb 2008
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Woman Avenger [DVD] (DVD)
The Woman Avenger is a good example of this type of old school KF movie.

She is raped, her husband killed. She learns KF from a priestess who rescues her, and then takes her revenge.

The DVD is a straight port from an old video, and the dubbing is as usual unintentionally funny with Cockney accents etc, but all this adds to the charm.

There is some great leg action towards the end as she takes down the big baddie.

If you can see past the ending of this film (pretty poor...) you will have witnessed one of the best westerns ever made.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Kung Fu action, 5 Jun 2007
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Big Rascal [1980] [DVD] (DVD)
Big Rascal is a great film to watch, the story is simple enough, the usual "poor but good at Kung Fu brothers make it big".

However, there are many excellent fights in this film. The DVD quality transfer is acceptable for this cheap end budget copy, but the dubbing is hilarious (intentionally and unintentionally) with cockney accents etc. This does not detract from the film, and it is very re-watchable.

If you want cheap thrills, and a good example of old school Kung Fu, then get this.
