5.0 out of 5 stars at last complete!, 2 Dec 2009

I have to say the 2 episodes animated as the original films no longer exist are excellent. The BBC needs to use the same animation house to recreate all the other missing episodes, as the quality is superb.

The story is one of the better stories from this period, and now complete is a joy to watch. The extras are good too, a great documentary about the making of this story, and good documentaries regarding animating it.

4.0 out of 5 stars the start of a classic series of westerns, 21 Aug 2009
This review is from: Journey To A Hanging [DVD] (DVD)
Cimarron Strip aired on CBS in the USA from September 1967 to March 1968. Its star was Stuart Whitman who played the role of Marshal Jim Crown. (The series was produced by the same people who produced Gunsmoke).

The format was for a series of approx 90 minute westerns (including adverts), and was very similar to The Virginian in its style.

Set in Oklahoma, but used many locations for external shooting eg Alabama, Utah and Tuscon.

This is the very first episode (of only 23 ever made, the series was cancelled after just one season). Its theme music was composed by Maurice Jarre.

The stories being longer than the usual 30 minutes or so, gives time for more character development. The film quality has aged somewhat, however these are good stories and are examples of 1960s westerns done well.

this is the official release by Paramount, the quality of print and sound is wonderful, and knocks the other versions (using public domain prints) into a cocked hat.

The extras are plentyful, and informative. A lot of care has gone into this DVD, and it is one of my favourite Duke films, the mud fight is the best fight ever filmed... just wonderful entertainment.

4.0 out of 5 stars not as bad as you may remember, 30 Jun 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
having been a fan since the late 60s, i feel able to speak with some persepctive regarding the remastered and CGI editions of the episodes contained on this new release.

The episodes when shown in the 60s and even into the early 80s where very acceptable in their special FX, however since the advent of CGI, we have become accustomed to top quality SFX, and the addition of such to the 1960s episodes of ST have not diminished the experience one bit... i would say it has brought ST into the 21st century. I am aware this grates with the purists who believe the episodes ought to remain untouched.

The episodes are packaged in a metal tin, with "fat" amaray style clear case.

Extras are plentiful and interesting to watch.

All in all a very worth while purchase. Series 1 and 2 are of course better for being under Gene Roddenberry's control, and these episodes are drifting away from his original "feel", but they are not as bad as you may remember them.

5.0 out of 5 stars Genuinely Deluxe, 30 Mar 2009

This 3 disc set is packaged in the thickest card and has a velvet covering. A really well produced package, with a sumptuous booklet too.

The first disk has a new commentary which is insightful and entertaining.

The second disc is as it was on the 2 disc version.

The extras on the third disc are all new and go into great detail and are very much worth viewing.

All in all, a superb set... I hope they do the same for Quantum of Solace.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent film, 28 Mar 2009
I found QOS to be an excellent film, well directed, well acted, good story and a perfect continuation from Casino Royale.

The locations used where as gritty as the action. Daniel Craig is proving to be the best Bond yet. It is true that the "feel" of the old Bond films is being lost to some degree, however after the atrocious Die another Day, a new start was needed... and Daniel Craigs two outings as Bond have been just what was needed.

My only complaint at all about this release is... why was the opening Bond Ident (where the white circles on black backgound find Bond and he turns an shoots at the camera) used at the very end of the film?

The extras on the DVD itself are limited, and are not too in depth. They are informative enough, and you do get a feel for the behind the scenes work involved in making the film, but i was left wanting more. I am sure they will do a Deluxe release later on as they did with Casino Royale and satisfy the Bond fan that wants more in depth documentaries etc.

All in all a great DVD. I would recommend this highly.

A fantastic film. Great story, great acting and excellent camera work.

More twists and turns than a back lane in Devon. Graphic - Yes, Gruesome - Yes, over thetop - No.

Leaves an impression long after watching. An essential purchase for anyone, not just for asian movie fans.

The DVD is well put together, a plethora of extras, just an all round great package. Top marks to all involved in producing the film, and producing the DVD.

This box set has the 2 disc platinum version of Iron Monkey. 1 disc Thai Chi and 1 disc Wing Chun.

As usual HKL have produced top quality DVDs in picture and sound, as well as great extras. As HKL are now no longer releasing DVDs with this quality extras, and as most HKL DVDs are going out of print, it would be an idea to get as many as you can before they become too expensive.

This book makes you ashamed to be a white man, it angers you to hear how the native american indians were treated.

I knew before reading the book that the white man had treated the indians so badly, but I was not ready to read exactly how badly.

As an indian says in the book " They broke all there promises, except one. they promised to take all our land".

My heart goes out to all the native Ameican people.
