2.0 out of 5 stars Funny, irritating and sad all in one, 19 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
There are fun bits which counteract with the sad bits. However, it appears that the characters are not well thought and most of the situations are beyond real.
I am not in the same age group with the heroine so maybe unable to sympathise with some aspects of her story, but she has two kids, a nanny, people to look after her kids if nanny not available and no need to work or make money...can write if and only she wishes just as a hobby I suppose?!
Additionally the twist in the story ruined it for me. The end of the story was so predictable from a very early stage in the book.

Pig's Foot
Pig's Foot
by Carlos Acosta
Edition: Hardcover
Price: £10.39

2.0 out of 5 stars Easy to read but not quite up to my liking, 13 Feb 2014
This review is from: Pig's Foot (Hardcover)
Good but the twist at the end sort of ruined it for me. I much preferred the initial bit of the story which to my opinion had the potential of a great latin american epic style novel.

A Week in December
A Week in December
by Sebastian Faulks
Edition: Paperback
Price: £6.29

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, 19 Jan 2014
This review is from: A Week in December (Paperback)
Contemporary and easy to read. Engages the reader from the first few pages.
I loved the indirect sarcasm to most things which define our current way of living.
Well created, realistic characters.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent highchair, 14 Jan 2014

Ticks all the boxes for me.
Safe, versatile, good in size.
Practical in the sense that can be used from very young to older babies due to the additional cushioning.

Maya's Notebook
Maya's Notebook
by Isabel Allende
Edition: Paperback

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great book by Allende, 14 Jan 2014
This review is from: Maya's Notebook (Paperback)
Once again a beautifully written fiction book by Allende. Placed in the present a book that touches difficult aspects of our modern life such as absence of a unified family life, childhood prostitution, drugs.
If you are an Allende's fan like me you will love this book instantly. The writing is smooth and captivates you from the first few pages.
I have found other critics on this book too harsh, s to how can all this happen to one person, and so on. However, if you love fiction you have to let your imagination free and playful alongside Maya's story, forget about the practicalities. It is all about the journey, making you feel and think.
In Allende's books the story is somewhat always unified by the balance of the universe and at the end as if in an ancient greek tragedy, comes the salvation of the soul.
