5.0 out of 5 stars LIFE ON A WINDJAMMER, 26 Oct. 2015

This review is from: The Brassbounder (Kindle Edition)
If you are interested in what life was like at sea during the last days of sail, this is a 'Must Read'. David Bone was Commodore Master of the Anchpr Line, and served his apprenticeship in sail. Accounts of the hazards are well written. The only reservation is that he has tried to depict his characters by writing their utterances in Hebridian, Welsh and Cockney fprmat.
I first read this book as a boy, and was not disappointed the second time around.

Some excellent tracks taken from the 'Golden Age' of Tango. Most of the big names are here.
Ten CD's to listen to and savour; and if you are able to tango with a partner - enjoy the best fun a couple can have in a vertical position.

This is a publishing event which has been long anticipated. Was it worth the wait? - You bet! Anyone at all interested in the technicalities of navigation should have this monumental work on their bookshelf. Rupert Gould was notable as the restorer of the long-neglected Harrison marine timepieces, a polymath and regular panellist on the old BBC Brains Trust, and contributor to Childrens' Hour. Originally published in the 1920's, I applaud The Antique Collectors Club for this new edition.
Gould's original text is given in full, complete with his illustrations and amendments for a planned update.
Now Jonathan Betts MBE, Senior Curator of Horology at the Royal Observatory, Greenwich has added material and images to bring Gould's work thoroughly up to date.
But Gould did not stop with Harrison. Details of the lives and work of later instrument makers ensure the value of this encyclopaedic volume.
If you enjoyed Dava Sobel's best-seller 'Longitude', and film of the same title, and wish to know what happened both before and after Harrison, you need this book!
