Breville VKJ419 Countdown Polished Kettle
Breville VKJ419 Countdown Polished Kettle

5.0 out of 5 stars All lit up..., 23 Oct 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Breville VKJ419 has a nice touch - the base lights up when the kettle is boiling - cycling through from blue to red on reaching boiling point. Whilst this doesn't add to the functionality it sets it apart from other similar price kettles. The trouble is, it looks so pretty, I've found myself making tea in the dark, just to watch the lovely LED lights!

The water boils quickly and at the same volume of other Breville kettles I have used. You can fill the kettle to the required amount, with a water window that shows how much to fill for 2 cups (the minimum) through to a maximum of 1.7 litres.

So if you want a decently priced kettle, that looks good in a modern kitchen, this might fit the bill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Portable, quality scanner, 21 Sep 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is a handy scanner for those who might not have the deskspace for a traditional flatbed scanner (i.e.students and those who want to scan documents whilst travelling).

I'm old enough (don't laugh) to remember hand scanners in the mid 1990's - whilst they didn't take up much space, they produced variable results. The ScanSnap S1100 document scanner gives very good results every time, quickly scanning documents up to 300 dpi, outputting the finished scan as PDF, Word, Powerpoint or several other options.

The hardware is powered by USB and this adds to the portability. Whilst it won't replace my desktop scanner, it is something that I will use when I need to work away from home.

The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2011 (Unofficial Guides)
The Unofficial Guide to Walt Disney World 2011 (Unofficial Guides)
by Bob Sehlinger
Edition: Paperback
Price: 14.23

4.0 out of 5 stars Good, in-depth guide to Disney World, 21 Sep 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Weighing in at a wopping 864 pages, this is the most comprehensive guide to Walt Disney World I have read. For me, the main advantages of this guide over others I own is that it goes into much more depth - from the pre-planning, to details of hotels (Disney Resort hotels and those outside the resport) right down to sections on all the parks, and an added bonus not covered in many other guides, the water parks.

While its not the sort of guide I will read cover-to-cover, and it does not have the pictures of less weighty guides, this is more than compensated for by the details and the depth of information.

I will certainly dip into different sections as the time gets nearer to my next Disney holiday.

Wrapsol Ultra Protective Film Wrap for iPhone 4 / 4S
Wrapsol Ultra Protective Film Wrap for iPhone 4 / 4S

4.0 out of 5 stars No bubbles, no troubles, 21 Sep 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Sorry for the 1980's song reference in the title, couldn't resist.

The instructions are best viewed in video form (using a QR code on the box) - the how to apply video is very helpful. Whilst the Wrapsol is more expensive than screen protectors, this product does cover the front screen of your iPhone 4 and the back of your phone. The packaging does mention "drop + scratch protection" - but I would still suggest extra care with your iphone, with or without this cover. Adding this cover will not make it bounce back into your hand, but what it will do is prevent scratches to the screen if you have a "bare" iPhone.

The other advantage is that there do seem to be less bubbles than usual screen protectors - I've thrown so many screen protectors away because of the awful bubbling, but as with all protectors, try to apply in as clean an environment as you can - away from pet hairs and dust.

Philips SensoTouch RQ1280cc GyroFlex 3D Rotary Rechargeable Shaver with Clean and Charge Stand
Philips SensoTouch RQ1280cc GyroFlex 3D Rotary Rechargeable Shaver with Clean and Charge Stand

5.0 out of 5 stars Quality shaver, 16 Aug 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Philips SensoTouch charges quickly (around an hours charge for an hours use) - and the front of the shaver displays the time remaining until the next charge, which is a useful feature.

I have used the shaver for both wet and dry shaves, and it does give a very smooth shave.

The cleaning system is easy to use, although the instructions are amongst the worse I have ever seen (just pictures and I had to use trial and error to work out how to get a full clean of the shaver).

Although the shaver heads can be simply run under a tap, once a week I use the cleaning system to deep clean the shaver properly and to charge it. The shaver also comes with a travel pouch for protection and although its the heaviest shaver I have used, its weight does not detract from the ease of use, and the quality of the shave.

Death of an Unsigned Band
Death of an Unsigned Band
by Tim Thornton
Edition: Paperback
Price: 7.81

4.0 out of 5 stars A good read for music fans, 16 Aug 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
"Death of an unsigned band" took a while to get going, mainly because it takes a while to get to know the main characters. The book is split into the main narrative broken up with interview questions with the band members, which is a bit of a distraction at first, but then starts to make sense towards the end of the book, as the interview is central to the story.

The book will especially appeal to anyone who has been in a band (lots of moments that you will recognise and probably cringe at) but it will also appeal to readers who have no experience of performing.

The characters are a mixture of the likeable (the singer-songwriter Russell) to the ones you despise (Josh, who attaches himself to the band). The characters personalities develop as the story progresses and there are lots of references to music from the 70's through to the mid 90's.

5.0 out of 5 stars maptastic guide, 20 July 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
California 'day by day' is a wealth of information for anyone travelling to the state, with chapters dedicated to the (many different) parts of the state, including San Francisco, Big Sur, LA and "The best of California" which touches on the best small towns, beaches, shopping experiences and so on.

The guide is well laid out with many good pictures, detailed maps and a large foldout map tucked safely in a sealable plastic wallet in the rear cover.

Restaurants and theatres / museums listed in the guide usually have web links as well as telephone numbers.

I liked some of the more unique features in the guide, including "auto obsession" which shines a spotlight on Californias love affair with the car (the state is made for long drives) and a short feature on the music of California (its not just about The Eagles!).

I recommend this guide, and wish I'd had it on my trip to the state last year, especially as I had no mobile internet whilst abroad, and would have found a lot more about areas to visit.

Kickster Academy Ultra Portable Football Goal, Yellow - 6 x 4 ft
Kickster Academy Ultra Portable Football Goal, Yellow - 6 x 4 ft
Offered by Net World Sports
Price: 42.60

4.0 out of 5 stars great starter goal, 22 Jun 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The goal is just the right size for smaller kids, and is fairly easy to set-up.

Being a junior goal, it won't stand up to the rigours of older children smashing footballs into the back of the net, but for younger children, it's ideal.

As its a portable goal, there is no need to leave it outside all year round, like a lot of home-use sports kit. The UK weather can harm sports equipment if left outside all year round - when the bad weather comes, this goal can be packed away in its holder in around 5 minutes, and safely stored until its next needed. Being portable also means you can take it away from home, to the local park, or round to friends houses.

4.0 out of 5 stars excellent cordless rechargeable electric shaver, 22 Jun 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
I've had a few electric shaver over the years, and the Powertouch by Phillips is one of the best I have used, and the shaver being cordless is a definite bonus. It charges quickly, gives a good, clean-feeling close shave, but what is unique is the cleaning system.

The shaver sits with the shaving head in the jet clean system (after adding the "ocean breeze scented" liquid that comes with the kit) - and it charges the razor whilst cleaning. It takes around an hour for a full charge, or 3 minutes for a quick charge (enough for one shave).

The only negatives are: I don't know how much the jet clean solution costs yet, or how easy it is to obtain, and the instructions are picture based, no text, so takes a little while to fully understand the charging system.

One word of advice - be careful when moving the charging / cleaning system - as it contains liquid, and if it is tipped sideways, the liquid will spill.

4.0 out of 5 stars easy to set-up, 15 Mar 2011
Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
The Gear4 Unity Remote has already consigned some of my many remotes to the drawer. So far I have only set it to control my Sony TV & Samsung bluray player, but it works well on both.

From setup to use took about 10 minutes, and it was a painless set-up process, with clear instructions contained in the manual. Once the unit was synched to my iPhone, it took another couple of minutes to find my TV and bluray, which can now both be controlled from the (free app) on my iPhone.

The receiver sits underneath my TV, and in close proximity to my DVD & bluray players, and blends in with the other equipment. The only awkward thing is having to remember to turn it off (to conserve battery life) but frankly that's a small price to pay for the convenience of less remote controls cluttering the living room.
