5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent overview of the saxophonist as a young man, 22 May 2009
This must be one of the best buys when it comes to modern European jazz: 3 Tommy Smith records for the price of 1. On Reminiscence he sounds like Jan Garbarek, a lovely, austere tone accompanied only by bass and drums; on Misty Morning Guy Barker and Julian Arguelles help fill out the picture - the best of modern British jazz.On Azure the sound is again different, with Kenny Wheeler at least as prominent as the leader and with a superlative rythm section: Lars Danielson and Jon Christensen. Highly recommended.

3.0 out of 5 stars nice music, bad production?, 6 May 2005
This review is from: Sweet Honey Bee (Audio CD)
The music is mostly excellent, Henderson and Hubbard in great form as usual. The annoying thing (on my copy anyway) is what sounds like scratches (like on a worn LP) on many of the tunes. 5 stars for the music, 1 for production (something to do with the copy control? I've heard of similar problems with other recent Blue Notes).
