5.0 out of 5 stars A superb, disturbing drama, but no horror movie, 17 Mar 2003
This review is from: Rosemary's Baby [1968] [DVD] (DVD)
Rosemary's Baby is a magnificent movie. Mia Farrow puts in a stunning performance as the protagonist of the story; in my view one of the finest dramatic performances in modern film history.
It is, however, somewhat misleading to categorise Rosemary's Baby as a horror film. By the modern conventions of what constitutes a horror film, it is no such thing; the terror in this film is understated and on the mental stage, and expressed without any outrageous scenes that make you jump in your chair.
Nonetheless it will leave an impression on the viewer: the intellectualised depiction of terror in this film is since unsurpassed in the modern history of scary films.

4.0 out of 5 stars Kent never fails - but buy it in the original language., 17 Mar 2003
This review is from: Isola (Audio CD)
Isola, together with Hagnesta Hill and 2002 release Vapen & Ammunition constitutes the "magnificent three" in the career of this Swedish band. However I have always felt that the English versions of Isola and Hagnesta Hill were somewhat pointless. True, the translations do work to some degree, but some of the power, intensity and atmosphere of the original-language songs is lost. Singer Joachim's English, also, fails to impress, leaving me, at least, with the conclusion that buyers are advised to go for the Swedish version. That said, even this translated version of one of the really great releases in European music of the last few years contains enough resident class to earn itself a nice rating of "4". Do yourself a favour and get hold of Kent's original-language magic, and be enthralled by pure genius.

5.0 out of 5 stars Utter Swedish genius, 30 Oct 2002
This review is from: Vapen & Ammunition (Audio CD)
Being Norwegian, I'm fortunate enough to be in capacity of understanding Kent's Swedish lyrics. My only regret about the group is that I've not discovered them earlier; certainly I can't think of any single group that have continued to produce such magnificent music using a magnitude of different musical styles. Whilst the music in itself is splendid, for me what really makes this a quintessential listening experience are the words; Kent's are stupendously grafted lyrics, true and tender yet powerful, without ever dropping into clichès or banalities. It is, simply, pop music at its very best.
