Le Chat du Rabbin : L'intégrale des 5 albums
Le Chat du Rabbin : L'intégrale des 5 albums
by Joann Sfar
Edition: Board book
Price: £22.79

5.0 out of 5 stars An entertaining read, 12 Feb 2014

I bought this after watching the film on TV and I'm not disappointed. Based mainly in Algiers it is the story of a highly intelligent, educated cat who has philosophical and religious discussions with the Rabbi. (He ate a parrot and for a while had the gift of speech). It is more than that however and should not be seen a book that might only be of interest to a small section of society. As well as being an entertaining book with great illustrations, it's a book that makes you think and as such is suitable for adults and older teenagers.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must for French speaking poetry lovers, 12 Feb 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Combining his unique style of illustration with a variety of poetry from the 15th century to the present day, Quentin Blake has produced a wonderful book. There are 28 poems and all the illustrations are of our time, regardless of the century in which they were written. This was a very clever thing to do as it makes you realize how timeless poetry can be. A wide selection of poets, styles and subject matter are included and will bring pleasure to all French speaking poetry lovers.

I have had this book for a couple of months now but have been too busy knitting to get around to writing a review. Having started to knit little hats for the Age Concern + well-known smoothie drink company campaign to raise money for the elderly, I was looking for inspiration to make the task more interesting. This book was exactly what I was looking for. There are rather a lot of large cable patterns, which I can't use for this particular project but I'm sure they'll come in handy in the future. There are lots of simple but effective patterns and it's great to be able to chose between written and chart instructions.

One note of caution however. On page 47 there is an omission in the written instruction for the pattern called 'small fancy twist'. You need to K2 after slipping one knitwise. On page 142 the written instructions for Wisteria stitch do not tally with the chart.

5.0 out of 5 stars Everything you need to know, 22 Aug 2011
I was looking for a book which would not only show me crochet techniques but also give me a library of stitches from which to chose. This book certainly fills the bill and would suit both beginners and the more experienced. The instructions, given in both written form and chart, are extremely clear, as are the illustrations. I can't imagine ever needing another crochet 'bible'.
