DANDELION SEEDS LP (VINYL ALBUM) UK BAM CARUSO 1987
DANDELION SEEDS LP (VINYL ALBUM) UK BAM CARUSO 1987

5.0 out of 5 stars A real find, this one., 15 Feb 2014
I first heard this on vinyl all those years ago, and I wasn't that impressed, but I was more into west coast acid rock at the time, so I was rather prejudiced. Having recently listened to it on cd, though, I can quite unequivocally state that this is one serious psychedelic mind trip; difficult to describe musically, but a real winner!
Don't pay crazy prices for it, though, for you can get it as one of five cds in the "Original Album Series"....."Psychedelia". And for about a tenner!!

4.0 out of 5 stars Stunning debut album., 11 Feb 2014

It's late 66/early 67; Cream and Love have collaborated to create an LP, and this is the result. Dr Who has then picked it up in the Tardis and transported it to the present day.
It's kind of like the opposite of Wooden Shjips, but in a good way: short, spiky, speed fueled tracks, with crystal clear vocals, harmonies, instrumentation, and tempo changes. 4.5 stars does it justice.

Released in 1970, but sounds like vintage 68. Many memorable songs and tunes, here.
Lots of psychedelic rarities from the period fail to live up to expectations, but this one delivers the goods, in spades! Highly recommended.

1.0 out of 5 stars Rubbish! Don't waste your money on this., 28 Nov 2013

I borrowed this from my local library. I would be hopping mad if I had bought it!To call this recording raw, would be flattery.
It sounds like it was recorded in a garage on a woolworth's tape recorder.
Morrison sounds like a pub singer, and the band play like novices. Truly dire!

Hard to believe, but this album was commissioned by the manufacturers of a chocolate bar, and sold for $1.50 plus 5 wrappers. The manufacturers got a bargain, and the consumers got a classic slice of mellow, laid-back, late night psychedelia.
Highly recommended. And you don't need to buy the chocolate bars, now.
PS. The bonus "Space Kids" material is a good laff, also.

So why only 3 stars?....because I'm unable to give it the 3.5 stars that it deserves.
It's a diverse album and a mixed bag as to quality. There are a couple of weak/throwaway tracks, and the bonus tracks are hardly a bonus, but there are a number of strong tracks, and two or three that are absolute STELLAR psychedelic rock workouts, as good as anything that was around at the time, and that makes it absolutely worth it for connoisseurs of obscure, late sixties psychedelia.

5.0 out of 5 stars Try Tea Tree Oil, instead., 19 April 2013
OK. To begin with: I was proscribed canesten HC by my doctor, some years ago, and it works brilliantly for my recurring fungal/sweat rash problem; but not only is it VERY expensive to buy over the counter, but it also comes with dire warnings against long term usage; even the pharmacist at my local ASDA gives me the third degree, and tries to talk me out of buying it, much to my annoyance and embarrassment. So I recently looked into natural alternatives, and came up with Tea Tree Oil. It works just as well as the Canesten, has no side-effects, is widely available online or from high-street health shops, and is only half the price! It works a treat for me, even diluted; so why not give it a try?

4.0 out of 5 stars Weird and wonderful; unclassifiable; unique!, 10 Mar 2013

Blimey! How to even begin to describe this amazing record? It is country and rock and psychedelia with orchestration and sound effects. It is "Forever Changes" colliding with "Sweetheart of the Rodeo" and walking away intact from the smouldering wreckage with an unlikely but surprisingly effective and convincing blend.
Bad management and marketing, meant that it bombed; but it could and should have been huge. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect pop and good clean fun., 15 Feb 2013
First off: I'm reviewing the Monkees as a band, rather than this particular compilation, though it does seem to be as good as any.
They have been routinely slated as "manufactured" by the snobbish music press and its "serious" (read...pretentious) critics, but so what? Manufactured? sure, and so is a fine set of clothes or a good meal; but could they sing and play and write good songs and tunes? the answer is a resounding YES! And no sex or drugs, either; just good clean fun and perfect pop.

3.0 out of 5 stars Nice, but doesn't really deliver., 12 Feb 2013
This review is from: Moby Grape (Audio CD)
I've tried so hard to like this album; first on vinyl, and then on cd, but it is just plain, overrated. The tracks are way too short, leaving me hungry and dissatisfied. Good tunes, vocals and musicianship, but lacking in real substance.
And certainly not psychedelic; just fast, spiky pop and quaint ballads.
