Well written account by someone who had a fascinating though extremely tough and horrific experience in WW1. This should be one of the books you read if you have an interest in exploring how it really was in the 1st World War.

We will remember them.

Spot on good stuff, bit expensive but it does the business.
Using this on an oldish pair of tough leather boots, it keeps them going very well indeed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Despicable rat Lord carrington, 9 May 2011
This should be read, its an insightful and sad story of the fate dished out to Rhodesia by successive British Gov'ts, shame on them.

But it tells a story of bravery. The superb armed forces of Rhodesia fighting with one hand behind their backs and doing a brilliant job.

Read it.

5.0 out of 5 stars The way it was, warts n all., 24 Nov. 2009
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Well written account. I have read a lot of similar books but this ranks up there with the best.
A gritty detailed account of an Australian in the trenches. If you are interested in finding out how it was then this book is to be recommended. Easy read, full of detail and sometimes VERY gruesome, but that is exactly how it was and there are no punches pulled in this book.
What these men went through is quite incredible.

5.0 out of 5 stars WW1 in the raw and in the mud, 3 Nov. 2008
This review is from: In the Line (Paperback)
This memoir from the German side of the line is a 'no holds barred' account of life and death in the trenches of the 1st World War. It underlines the similarities found on both the Allies experience and the German. A graphic account, superbly written and has well been translated which is easy to read from that perspective. All the horrors, savagery and suffering exposed in this account as the years and events blast past in an unrelenting period that beggars belief really. If you are wishing to study this subject then this book is required reading.
