5.0 out of 5 stars Ground-breaking album from yesteryear, 16 Jun. 2016

... but it's still the most relevant and iconic jazz piano album ever. I have the original album in many different formats but this new 'complete' version is just wonderful. Thanks to all concerned in producing it. 'Night and Day' is just extraordinary. Also try visiting the 'Erroll Garner Jazz Project' on Facebook for some great pics and info etc.

The greatest of all jazz pianists in my view. If you miss this one then it'll be very sad. I've been trying to get 'One World Concert' for years without luck until now. Track listings are incorrect though - still I can put up with that for the wonderful music's sake.

2.0 out of 5 stars Inadequate and misleading, 16 Jun. 2016
This review is from: The Jazz Album (Audio CD)
How can you possibly have a jazz album without any Erroll Garner? What about Dudley Moore tracks? More Sarah Vaughan? Truth is that so much of this simply isn't jazz so the title is totally misleading. Whoever compiled this needs to get their genres correct!

5.0 out of 5 stars Really excellent reading with this box set of Viking Novels, 26 May 2015

Really excellent reading with this box set of Viking Novels. Long reads - but many times 'couldn't put it down'. Well worth the vast expense of 99p!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great to get this on CD, 7 Oct. 2013

Back in the early seventies a very famous jazz guitarist gave me an LP 'Another Taste of Honey' by Martin Denny. It was in a rather sorry state of repair as he had bought it second-hand but I grew to really like the simplistic piano/vibes 'lounge' type jazz (strange as I'm really a massive Erroll Garner / Dudley Moore fan and this is certainly not in that ilk).

Several tracks became favourites; 'Harlem Nocturne', 'Somerset', 'Cool'. I still have the battered old LP album with surface scratches et al. I've been hoping that someday this album would re-appear in CD format and a recent lengthy search for it eventually ended at Amazon where it's been coupled with the earlier 'Taste of Honey' album on a single CD. Not too sure about that first album but certainly 'Another Taste of Honey' has brought many memories flooding back - and now I can listen to it perfectly in this remastered version (nice one Mr Dutton). For 1962 and 1963 albums the overall sound quality is quite good in fact.

This is not exactly super technical jazz but interesting and pleasant. Martin Denny is known for his 'exotic' lounge jazz / easy listening such as 'Quiet Village', 'South Pacific' etc which is really not of that much personal interest to me although all that stuff is available as a huge amount of MP3 downloads on Amazon as well - but the 'Taste of Honey' albums though are not at the time of writing!

I've noticed that the Vocalion label has some very interesting other classic recordings available judging by the CD sleeve which I will also be investigating over time.

You could do a lot worse than treating yourself to this.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolute rubbish, 3 Aug. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
The product arrived much later than the other small items I had ordered at the same time from different suppliers. The Samsung phone fits into it - but the clamp system does not hold the phone and it easily falls out - especially when you push up the phone to dial a call. The clamp itself is made from really cheap and brittle plastic. If I could be bothered to do it for £2 including P & P I would send it back for a refund. I don't often criticise products but this one is real junk. If you buy this - you're sad and mad !!!

Since this review appeared I have been contacted by the seller and obtained a full refund without any problems. Better service and thank you e-Buster!

5.0 out of 5 stars 'Uncle Mac', 26 Jun. 2012

Saturday mornings on the 'light' programme - Uncle Mac and Children's Favourites was not to be missed. These tracks were all featured on that programme - plus a lot more of course in the same idiom. Try singing along after you've had a few to drink - hilarious ! Thoroughly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars MJQ classic, 26 Jun. 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I've been wanting this original vinyl album to go to CD for many years and now it's here. Apart from a small amount over over-limit distortion on the vibes on a couple of tracks (that is also on the original vinyl album) it is still a wonderful interpretation of the Gershwin classic. Took me back to my teens. Well worth the money.

Was disappointed that the book ends at 1898 and doesn't cover the Spanish Civil War - but for free it's an interesting read - from an American's viewpoint.
