4.0 out of 5 stars 9 out of 12 aint bad!, 8 July 2010
This review is from: Steel Wheels (Audio CD)
whilst I am very much a fan of the mick taylor stuff from 69-74 I would recommend this one above most others since. Out of the 12 tracks on this release there are in my opinion 9 very good tracks, the other three are fillers!. worthy of particular mention are terrifying, blinded by love, cant be seen, almost hear you sigh and slipping away. if you have stayed away from the stones since the 70's why not give this a try

i recently bought this to replace the last remastered version. took a bit of a gamble as i wasnt sure whether there would be an improvement. If you are playing on your car stereo or a bog standard cd player I suspect you wont hear a difference, if however you have good quality kit ie cd player, seperate amplifier and good speakers then you definately will. i can hear sounds that werent previously there, much better seperation of instruments, probably worth the upgrade at 4.99. i sold my old cd for a couple of quid on amazon anyway.

5.0 out of 5 stars up there with his best, 5 July 2010
This review is from: From The Inside (Audio CD)
i first heard billion dollar babies when I was about 9 at the time it came out. its still sounds as exciting as ever.
Im in the school that says alices best work ended at the end of the 70's. love it to death until from the inside.

from the inside was written after his experiences in rehab/asylum, bernie taupin who did elton johns lyrics was involved as they were good friends. whilst it has a more commercial sound than the earlier classics in retrospect it is right up there with his best. great vocals, top musicians and great lyrics based on his experiences.

i hate to dismiss what he has done since as i havent heard much of it, but to anyone discovering alice this would be on the list of his must have cds along with schools out, killer, billion dollar babies, muscle of love and love it to death. still cant decide whether I put welcome to my nightmare or go to hell in that list.

would be great to see all the early stuff remastered!!!!

3.0 out of 5 stars happy days!!, 4 Jun 2010

for many this was the closest we came to seeing England win the World cup. I remember it all starting so unconvincingly against ireland, however as each game went by england got better, rode their luck and ended up in the semi finals. at the time we couldnt believe it! I just remember a month where the only thing that mattered was football.

whilst the dvd is a good watch and brings back a lot of memories, my main complaint is the quality of the match footage, its like watching one of the old fifa films where it jumps around . surely there is plenty of tv footage that is much better than this and flows much better.

not sure if it will stand up to lots of repeated watching.

its easy to forget just how good gascoigne was in his prime, we actually had a genuine world class player, totally unpredictable but capable of running rings around the best.

3.0 out of 5 stars the late great robert quine, 21 April 2010
This review is from: Live In Italy (Audio CD)
this could have been great, as it is , its a good live lou reed cd with his greatest band featuring the late great guitarist robert quine. it was recorded on the back of the blue mask and legendary hearts releases of the time. it features a good mix of classics and songs from the two mentioned recordings. There is also a dvd available of the concert which I prefer.
this led me to purchase the two cds mentioned which are up their amongst the best of his work and introduced me to the work of robert quine who was in a league of his own. For further proof listen to his work with richard hell and the voidoids, he was like no other!
On this cd he is quite understated but listen to the voidoids and he is like a man possessed.

This is a good lou reed live cd and cheap at the price

4.0 out of 5 stars up close and personnel, 6 Feb 2010
I managed to see this tour in newcastle in the old tyne theatre, a fantastic venue, small with fantastic sound. unfortunately it seems to only do pantomimes these days so we are left with the horrible metro arena, a massive metal hut, the sage which is very posh , good sound but totally lacking in any atmosphere or the o2 which is ok.

anyway back to elvis , it was a great tour and this is a great reminder of the show. tiny venue in memphis.

there is some great footage of pete thomas and elvis travelling around musical spots of memphis, arkansas, helena etc

music is a mix of the old classics and stuff from the cd of the time the delivery man.

also features emmylou harris who duets on a few songs.

a great dvd!!!!

again one that I had on tape years ago that I always liked, wouldnt be in my top ten but for the price has a few good songs on it. it has a very 80's sound which obviously dates it but still worth a listen at the price.
Bears no relation to the stones stuff at all. judge on its own merits

I remember buying a 12 inch single with a few of these songs on, it is very much in the style of the mother fist lp that was out at that time. They sound very much like the type of song scott walker would have sung. Very different to his soft cell stuff or his stuff that was a hit but still great to hear again and because of its style it hasnt dated at all.
