Horrible Bosses 2

Price: £6.99

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible film., 30 Aug. 2015
One of the worst films I have ever seen. Pointless is an understatement. Charlie Day has got to be one of the most appalling actors of all time. And to think these guys are millionaires by now. Even the wonderful Jennifer Aniston couldn't save this rubbish.

1.0 out of 5 stars zzzzzzz, 26 May 2015
This review is from: SadioWitch [7" VINYL] (Vinyl)
Black Mass Black Mass...haven't we heard this before? Talk about dumb, lazy and laughably dull! Oh and the b-side is a variation on an album track? How exciting.

Save your cash.

1.0 out of 5 stars The original Wolf Creek was a great slice of backwoods nastiness, 19 April 2015
This review is from: Wolf Creek 2 [DVD] (DVD)
The original Wolf Creek was a great slice of backwoods nastiness, and one of the best horror films of recent years.
This sequel is absolute rubbish and misses the point entirely.
Avoid.

Awful. Not remotely scary and ridiculously cliched.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing remotely special., 5 Nov. 2014
This review is from: 936 (Audio CD)
I've tried to enjoy this but it's just dull compared to their second album.

I guess if you like all this 'one riff repetitive indie' like Moon Duo this will be right up your street.
The thing is if it's not a good riff, playing it for ten minutes doesn't make it a good riff. It's just boring.

3.0 out of 5 stars Die Screaming, 27 Oct. 2014

Wild beyond belief was awesome, and whilst the riffs on this album are very cool they are nowhere near as heavy and those vocals take a fair bit of getting used to.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not as good as it could have been., 11 Oct. 2014
I won't go into too much detail here but I will say that this documentary is a mixed bag. It's not particularly well put together and lacks the sort of continuity or excitement you would normally expect from a film of this type. There's a distinct lack of focus on the music itself, focussing more on arty camera angles and shots of things that don't really add a great deal. The footage of Frost was also a bit tagged and uncalled for. I for one would have preferred some actual live footage of the bands involved. Anyhow, it is worth a watch but probably won't be the kind of film you revisit often. I'm still yet to see the perfect documentary on this controversial genre of metal.

2.0 out of 5 stars Decent sound for the price but badly designed., 7 Oct. 2014
Fairly clear sound but the design is pretty impractical. They simply do not stay in my ears. The slightest movement and they fall out. Also the volume control on the cable isn't particularly good.

Shock Value: How a Few Eccentric Outsiders Invented Modern Horror
Shock Value: How a Few Eccentric Outsiders Invented Modern Horror

Edition: Hardcover
Price: £18.99

3.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable book marred slightly by lack of research., 27 Sept. 2014
Shock Value is an entertaining and enjoyable book focussing, with great enthusiasm, on the golden age of horror film makers from the early sixties to late seventies.
I would recommend this as a quick and interesting read but possibly not as a source of detail as there are several glaring (and unusually simple) mistakes. Example: Any horror fan knows that in Wes Cravens gruelling debut film Last House on the Left the word 'Krug' is carved onto Marie's chest. Well, according to Zinnoman he carved 'love' (?!)
Also, in Texas Chainsaw Massacre the author claims that only one girl is killed by chainsaw, when in reality neither of the girls are even touched by a chainsaw. At all. There is also no basement in the film (?!)
The fact that he claims one of the villains in Cravens debut was killed by a speedboat engine is so bizarre! That scene is the famous finale of I Spit on Your Grave. How can anyone who's actually seen these films not know such simple things?!
He also names the incorrect Hershell Gordon Lewis film when discussing a death scene, which may seem idiosyncratic but is a pretty major scene and does still makes you wonder if he watched the films he's writing about.
These all seem to be just lazy and weird mistake.

Overall though it's worth a read and I did really enjoy it.
