1.0 out of 5 stars One of the worst British horror films ever., 10 Aug. 2011
This review is from: Colin [DVD] [2008] (DVD)
A pointless and painful viewing experience.
I saw this at Frightfest a couple of years back and most the audience were hugely dissapointed by the film and the ridiculous hype surrounding it.
Who cares if it didn't cost much to make? Colin is rubbish. Quite simply put. It's a pretentious, boring and terrible stab at a sub-genre that ran out of steam a long time ago.

4.0 out of 5 stars Very reliable cd's , however..., 25 May 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
...the packaging of the discs isn't good at all. The minute you remove the cellophane the cd's fall out. There is no spindle as such which means they aren't held together at all and are quite easy to damage.
Other than that I've yet to have one that doesnt work. Just open them with care.

3.0 out of 5 stars Sleepy Sun, 4 May 2011
This review is from: Fever (Audio CD)
Fever is an enjoyable second record from California's Sleepy Sun. And whilst it's certainly a grower, it's a fairly strong record in the vein of Wolf People, Graveyard and most notably Black Mountain.

The only problem being is these guys at times sound SO much like Black Mountain it may confuse people as the male/female vocal delivery is almost identical.
I'm sure I'm not the only person to have noticed these similarities.

3.0 out of 5 stars Crystal Castles, 29 April 2011
This review is from: Crystal Castles [II] (Audio CD)
Crystal Castles are an interesting band and I've liked both the albums so far.

My only issue is do they really need to be almost an hour long?! If both records lost a good quarter of an hour they would have a far bigger impact, especially the second one which tails off slightly and feels a bit drawn out.
(I don't have a problem with epic albums but I feel these guys possibly don't have enough ideas to maintain this sort of running time yet.)

However, when these guys hit their stride they really produce some fresh and exciting ideas. I'll be interested to see where they take this next.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great film. Dreadful cover., 12 April 2011
Yep, another Arrow dvd that comes in one of those childish, god awful new sleeves. A shame really as these Blu Rays look fantastic and I love the films.
I bet Mr. Argento would hate these covers. (Has anyone seen the Inferno design Arrow put out?!)
Lets hope this one also comes with a reversible sleeve. Either that or Arrow do what Shameless Screen Entertainment did and listen to the people who find their packaging to be somewhat embarrassing and do something about it.

Bird With The Crystal Plumage is a very good film by the way, and a beautiful introduction to Argento.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Very Enjoyable Soundtrack, 11 April 2011
As is normally the case with Wes Anderson's films, the soundtrack is far superior to the film itself, and a lot more enjoyable. The Darjeeling Limited is a prime example of that. I listened to that cd endlessly but only felt the need to see the actual film once.
I don't dislike his movies at all, but without these fantastically eclectic scores and exciting song choices the films would fall slightly flat.

If you can get past the abysmal production and almost unlistenable mix there just might be a decent album hidden somewhere here. I love Sabbath and own pretty much everything they have released. However, this is not good.

This record is, quite frankly insane! And absolutely great. Imagine if you will, the UK instrumental metallers Capricorns crossed with a rather laid back Faith No More, add some Slayer, a little bit of demented horror movie inspiration and some jazz and you have a pretty addictive though suitably strange album. Oh and whoever that is behind the drum kit deserves a pint. Nice one guys.

I enjoyed the first three Strokes albums greatly but come on people, this is just dreadful and you all know it. What a disgraceful mess of a record. No wonder they're so embarrassed by it. Dear lord...was this all made up on the spot?! It's time to stop hoping these guys are going to make great records as it's obvious the first album was a lucky, and rather fantastic fluke.

2.0 out of 5 stars Whats with Arrow's DVD sleeves?!, 30 Mar. 2011
This review is from: Island of Death [DVD] (DVD)
Surely it's not just me. The new sleeve designs Arrow are using for their current DVD's are abysmal! Whats with thes awful hand drawn childish sleeves? They bare no resemblance to anything or anyone in the films, and seeing as the original video sleeves were so eye catching and exciting, why bother even re-vamping them?

Anyhow....Island of Death. One crazy little slice of perverted video nasty mayhem and whilst it's a fairly shocking and risque film, it's also very silly and amusing. I'm sure most people buyng this edition will have seen it already. Though I'm fairly surprised certain scenes have been finally passed uncut in the UK.

Now can someone please tell Arrow to package their films in a less embarrasing and frankly stupid way? City of the Living Dead and House by the cemetery were decent. (well, one side of the sleeves anyway) This is just ridiculous.

Still, good choice of films guys.
