2.0 out of 5 stars Woah is me!, 29 Jun. 2015
This review is from: Jolly Lad (Paperback)
Jesus, anyone would have thought this was some revolutionary piece of literature. It's not, it's just the ramblings of some geezer who's had pretty much the same life as the rest of us. The difference is, the rest of us dont feel the need to bore you with a book about it.
The hipsters will love it and no doubt there will be a limited edition Grumbling Fur album to accompany it that will become the Quietus album of the year... zzzzzz poor John.

2.0 out of 5 stars Attack of the harmless twee hipsters., 8 Jun. 2015
This review is from: Classics (Audio CD)
This is a nice enough album, nothing remotely fresh or exciting but pleasant enough as background music.

The major downside is her voice which is frankly unbearable. She sounds like Kermit the frog with a clothes peg over her nose whilst struggling to get over a bad cold.
I'd say stick to acting but she's pretty lame at that too unless it involves looking cute, vacant and lopsided.

Black Mass Black Mass...haven't we heard this before? Talk about dumb, lazy and laughably dull! Oh and the b-side is a variation on an album track? How exciting.

Save your cash.

1.0 out of 5 stars The original Wolf Creek was a great slice of backwoods nastiness, 19 April 2015
This review is from: Wolf Creek 2 [DVD] (DVD)
The original Wolf Creek was a great slice of backwoods nastiness, and one of the best horror films of recent years.
This sequel is absolute rubbish and misses the point entirely.
Avoid.

3.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't mention any pubs you've not heard of already., 6 Mar. 2015
This nice looking book is nothing amazing as all of these pubs have been mentioned a million times before in every other London pub book/guide.

I was hoping this would cover some more interesting and tucked away gems but alas...it's not as good as you'd hope for, though the illustrations are nice

Awful. Not remotely scary and ridiculously cliched.

Time To Die
Time To Die

1.0 out of 5 stars How many times can one band use the same riffs and lyrics?!, 9 Jan. 2015
This review is from: Time To Die (MP3 Download)
I give up on this once awesome band. This album is rubbish.
Wake up baby, it's time to retire. And while you're at it pay your past band members for thier work and stop acting like you're some big important rock stars. You just look stupid.

Electric Wizard is about the original three piece that formed the band, this is like a DULL covers band rehashing those same bloody lyics about Black drugs and Fanataics.... I've tried so many times but it's hard to even make it through a whole song as the material has absolutely nothing to it.
There is maybe one good riff on this album, and don't even get me started on the daft vocals.

3.0 out of 5 stars Could have been much better., 14 Nov. 2014
Verified Purchase(What is this?)

I discovered these crazy doom Swedes when I heard their fantastic cover of "Run the Night" by Wicked Lady, which I could not stop playing. So, naturally I picked up this album, and it's really not anywhere near as groovy or addictive as I was hoping. In fact, it's a little bit dull and derivitive.

Salem's Pot have a cool image and sense of humour, their band name is simply awesome. The problem is this doesn't always transport itself into their actual music, which is a less crushing mix of Electric Wizard (before they sucked) and the fuzzed out jams of Earthless meets the obvious Sabbath riffs. (Surprise surprise!)

Doom has become a bit stagnant of late and I was genuinely hoping this band would replace the once life affirming Electric Wizard as my new favourite spooky doom band. Maybe their next album will have a bit more going on but this really is just style over substance. It doesn't even really "rock" as such either.
It's not all bad of course, the atmosphere is thick and haunting and the bands warped take on the genre is refreshingly creepy and bleak. I'm not sure about the vocals yet, they're either great or massively annoying. Maybe they're just better at cover versions.
I will defintiely be keeping an eye on these guys though. I do like them, I just expected much more than this.
