2.0 out of 5 stars Would have been much better if the producers had been loyal to Pierce Brosnan, 2 July 2015
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Would have been much better if the producers had been loyal to Pierce Brosnan. He deserved to be bond in this movie, as he had waited years to make a more serious bond film and then he wasn't let back in. The amount of times in interviews he said he wanted them to break down the cheesey action formula, the producers are berks that they felt they had to hire a new bond to do this. When you consider what a great bond he was he deserved to do this one. So, I can't respect this movie alone, for that reason. Everyone else just seems t ignore it and act as though Daniel Craig was a needed replacement, but he really wasn't, just the film's themselves needed a fresh direction.

3.0 out of 5 stars As a James Bay fan who waited for this album, I am disappointed, 28 Mar. 2015
This review is from: Chaos And The Calm (Audio CD)
James Bay has without doubt an amazing talent, but this album feels over-produced, which takes too much away from his fantastic voice and tunes. I can't help but feel most of the songs are ruined by the final album versions that have changed the original song's direction. Lots of the songs, such as 'When we were on Fire' aren't as good as the original E.p and Live versions. Sadly, on this record his emotional, raucous voice and brilliant songs have been limited to create an over-produced, soul pop album that does not fulfill the potential of his raw talent, having seen him live several times, even without a band, I can't help but feel this way. I'll still play it, but it could have been so perfect with less production. In my opinion, the original dark of the morning e.p is a better representation of James Bay, sounding closer to what his vocals sound live.

Really strong album by a band that you just don't get to hear of in the UK. All great songs and worth giving the album a few listens if it's brilliance doesn't hit you straight away. Rooster is a great track to hear first to get you into the band but all the songs are really good. Great Vocals and guitar. I suggest getting to know this bands albums. If you like bands like Black Lips, Dr Dog, Deer Tick, then give these a listen!

1.0 out of 5 stars Overatted nonsense, 25 Nov. 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
I had no expectations before watching this movie. But when the opening action sequence was over I was thinking that this film had potential to be a gritty gutsy Bond film. But, as the film continued, I became aware that it was just predictable nonsense. There was a lot of effort put into making the opening scene very exciting, but after the opening credits the film is really stupid and painful to watch. Here's just some of my reason's why I found it such a dumb, overrated film (I won't find the time to write them all):

WARNING : Spoilers ahead:

Bond is utterly useless in this movie. He is always one step behind.

Bond stands and watches a villain assassinate somebody and attacks the bad guy after the gun shot has been taken and the potential good guy is dead.

Bond's lack of stealth in finding the main villain completely endangers his life and another. He sneaks on a boat, takes off his clothes, sneaks into a lady's shower whilst she is showering (which seemed a bit over the top, even for bond!). In the next scene, he gives himself and the lady up to the bad guys, basically puts his hands up and says "take me to your leader" when there is no reason why they wouldn't just shoot him there & then, completely endangering his and her life. At this point I was still hoping the movie would pick up, but within 2-5 mins later, the lady is then killed and bond is captured so he can do nothing to save her (her death is questionably pretty much on his head).

The main villain is caught and put in a prison that you can tell looks pretty darn hard for him to escape from, but 4 mins later he's escaped, this would be absolutely fine if they had shown how he escaped, but all we see is an open door and a beat up guard. He then seems to remotely explode train tracks on his escape route path (whilst bond follows after him), which he couldn't have planted in advance as he wasn't to know he would be there.

During a court room attack on M, Bond gives the main villain a perfect chance to escape from a court room, by setting of loads of smoke.

Disappointingly SKYFALL just turns out to be the name of a house.

In the house attack Bond has a perfect chance to shoot the main villain when he's looking in the opposite direction, but all bond does is watch him and then hides behind the wall again which was a big missed opportunity as the rest of the bad guys would have up and left after the main vllain was killed.

When Bond sets of the mansion's explosion he then escapes through the secret passage tunnel without shutting the door, in reality first thing he would do is shut that door to stop the explosion from getting him.

Bond runs along dangerous thin ice to save M, and just to prove how completely useless Bond is we see the main villain walking alongside him on a safe path.

Bond fails to save M, and still the movie ends with bond being offered & accepting another mission, when the truth is, he was so unsuccessful in this mission, he should have been fired.

saw these live supporting Fight like Apes. I'm now a Zoetrope fan! Hopefully one day there will be an album, as they deserve to make one. Powerful quirky songs with a really brilliant voice. Great discovery for me personally and hope to hear as much songs from them as possible.

3.0 out of 5 stars Wanted to like it more than I did (Spoilers Ahead), 28 Jun. 2013
After just finishing this complete ashses to ashes on dvd, I really didn't enjoy this anywhere near as much as I wanted. There's an awful new character 'Jim Keates' who seems to reperesent a devil type figure, with the tiresome attitude of good(Gene) vs evil(Keates), heaven(Pub), hell(Jim Keates) etc.....Booooring and unorigianl! And a big shame, as I wanted to enjoy this series after enjoying Life on mars, but for me, ashes and had some very good ideas, especially with Gene, Ray, Chris and Shaz on the final episode, but ultimatly season 3 was ruined by the new Jim Keates character. Ashes to Ashes has Superb actors playing cool characters, it's just the direction the scripts took, sadly got more pretentious as the episodes went along. If a few tweaks could have been made in the story here n there, removing elements such as keates character, the idea of heaven hell and the fact that Gene couldn't follow his freinds due to being the purgatory guard (type thing, I think), without these annoying elements then it would have been alright, but I wasn't convinced that it worked in the end. Dissapointing after Life on mars, which I admit gave less answers, but I still found it a more quirky motivatingly, enthralling watch as it didn't take the annoying biblical path. Keeley Hawes is awesome and Philip Glenister, Dean Andrews etc all played their characters fantasically, just a ashame that key elements of the story arc couldn't have been better.....when there was alot of good things to the series!!

1.0 out of 5 stars muscular heroes & villains killing each other in war!! BORRINGG, 20 Mar. 2013
The Graphic Novel which this Animated Movie is based on, does ultimately have a rather negative, cold hearted story, which stops it from being interesting for me personally. Batman is a real one toned, Army Man character in this adaption, and all the characters are far too refined towards an intended dark depressive personalities, that help make the film really miserable. This is the type of violent story that should be left behind for now (for Batman anyway!) The writing from Frank Miller depicts too much of a dark world in the heroes and villains actions, and doesn't seem slightly realistic. To me it is actually as camp as the 60's series, because it's so narrow minded in the way it depicts the story & characters of a damaged society, that it leaves no room for any Art to be created. I still think that the Batman Animated series has far superior flow of movement in the animation, and better mouth movement, facial expressions that better suited the voice acting. I am not denying, that a lot of good Batman inspiration has come out of the original graphic novels from frank miller, but I think they should use what visual style from his comics and move it into something less narrow minded and grim with it's story, retaining the Batman Detective days. Obviously it was a very successful & inspirational graphic novel and obviously helped shape the Batman we know today. I can't help but feel that some of the violence, bad characters such as the Robin kid really are not that great. But I really do admirer Frank Miller for creating the dark & atmospheric Gotham City that is able to genuinely behold the Dark Knight! I just think that a more perfect Batman could be put into film if inspiration was taken from the right elements of different comic books instead of following the exact attitude this comic originally contained. by taking inspiration from lots of comic creators, instead of all these Frank Miller film adaptions that are around at the moment, I think we'd have a much more interesting Batman than anything that's around at the moment. It would be great if they used a lesser known, quirkier, more subtle graphic novel to adapt to an animated feature, that I would like.

I purchased a used copy of this, in which I was shocked to discover half way through the movie the sound cuts out, and only comes back for 5-10 minutes until it then goes again and never comes back. Whether or not a new copy straight from Amazon is the same I do not know. But I would stay clear as the picture quality was particularly dreadful anyway. Just thought I'd add to the reviews and confirm what D.carter writes in his review, as I wish I'd read it and not bothered. Waste of time and money!
