5.0 out of 5 stars Drifting.............., 13 Oct 2007
This review is from: Veneer (Audio CD)
If you have been captivated by any one of Jose Gonzalez's songs, then you will immediately fall in love with this album.
Suffused with his trademark lilting vocal and rhythmic - almost hypnotic - guitar accompaniment, this album draws you in from the very start.
Gonzalez takes you on a seamless journey - each song blending into and out of the last until the album ends and there's no option but to start all over again.
Gonzalez somehow manages a miracle with a series of simple vocal and guitar arrangements that rise well above the normal folk or acoustic alternative fare.
This album is truly remarkable and comes highly recommended by Ernest the Goose.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bluesy rock 'n' roll to stimulate your soul, 15 Aug 2007
This review is from: Thickfreakness (Audio CD)
I love these two guys. Although I still find it hard to believe that there's only two of them playing!
This is real gutsy, grungy, soul-stirring blues music at its very best. Some wonderful belting guitar riffs accompanied by inventive drumming and raw vocals. "Everywhere I go" title track: "Thickfreakness" & "Hold me in your arms" are the highlights for me. (A little slower and slidier in the guitar department than some of the more heavy offerings here.)
Grab your air guitar and let rip!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Out There!, 16 Feb 2007
I have to confess to hearing Ry Cooder's memorable and beautiful soundtrack long before seeing the film, however like many film soundtracks I have since purchased, this one stands up as a fine example of inspirational music on its own - with or without the film for reference.

It's funny, that years later I find myself embracing, with equal enthusiasm, the work of Gustavo Santaolalla: memorable for his soundtracks to Brokeback Mountain, 21 Grams, and Amores Perros. Like Cooder, Santaolalla also creates a timeless haunting soundscape with the purity of a simple guitar palate and when it works... there is nothing to beat it.

If you like this album, check out the other soundtracks I mentioned. In the meantime if you only have room for one 'out there' acoustic guitar album, buy this one at any price... you will not be disappointed.

5.0 out of 5 stars Jan Garbarek Officium, 2 Aug 2006
This review is from: Officium (Audio CD)
This is a remarkable Cd. Haunting, beautiful, spiritually stimulating (for those that need it) or tranquilizing (for those that don't.)

Memorable for all the ad men and women who have poached it over the years for evocative interlude music.

Easily one of my top ten CD's. If you have a vivid imagination, a good sound system, and time to wallow, then this is the album you've been searching for all those years to ignite your inner creativity and to flex the left side of your brain.

5.0 out of 5 stars perfect!, 31 July 2006
This review is from: Rise (Audio CD)
This album is a finely crafted and beautiful piece of work. 'Naked' is one of the most amazing tracks I have ever heard by any artist from any country or continent.
Anoushka Shankar undoubtedly has inherited the same rare and special talent from her father. Long may she reign. Listen and be enlightened, or live in the dark for the rest of your lives - the choice is yours.
