With all the best will in the world a book that teaches history should be PROOF READ properly. So many annoying inaccuracies and typos, denegrates the research and hard work put in by an obviously knowledgeable author. Please do your work properly publishers.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not for everyone., 1 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
In a time when I was exhausted by the multitudinous tasks I had taken on, and being taken advantage of I decided to read this book. It took a long time to get to the point, and the writer had a stress heart attack and lost his dog along the way.

Not an easy book to get into, and the advice when I finally found it was sound. Just say no.

Written by an American preacher it doesn't easily translate into British life.

5.0 out of 5 stars Poldarks in drag!, 1 Mar 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
A daring stagecoach robbery, the son and heir of the Poldark family involved, and what's worse the losses are frorm the family's arch enemy the Warleggans. The young men who accomplish this feat do it for various reasons, for one it is a problem solving exercise, for another a way to get out of extreme poverty, and then there is the adventurer who sees nothing wrong in it and can't wait to spend the money. Funny at times and touching but always mesmerising.

The lives of the Poldark family in the 18th century are now legend thanks to WInston Graham. The twists and turns of politics and the sexual heat of a love affair perhaps not meant to be, keep the pages turning to the end of the book.

I have had one of these before and used it to destruction! Handy for garden waste and household paper work.
Use firelighters and twigs to start the fire - don't overload or it will look like a jet engine in your garden and scare the neighbours! Also brilliant - the price - same item in the posh garden centre is 36.00.

1.0 out of 5 stars Now I know why, 3 Aug 2012
Now I know why the world is like it is, if everyone took Saatchi's view there would be a great deal of people in a great deal of trouble. Ok so being nice is under-rated but without us nice people Saatchi wouldn't be where he is today.
You see I can't even put what I really think because he has powerful lawyers, if you want to live in the world of the crass and uncaring this book is for you. I hope it was written as a joke - but I doubt it.

Fifty Shades Trilogy: Fifty Shades of Grey / Fifty Shades Darker / Fifty Shades Freed
Price: 13.99

1.0 out of 5 stars Consummate Rubbish, 27 July 2012
Why are people buying into this? Controlling, benign rape, torture, not a romance in any sense of the word. Ana should be calling 911 instead of Mr Grey.

A Discovery of Witches (All Souls Trilogy 1)

2.0 out of 5 stars Strange little book, 25 Nov 2011
I bought this book as I work in one of the places mentioned in it and was wondering what sort of silly questions I would have to answer from members of the public after it was published. If I was Stephanie Meyer I would be sueing the socks off Deborah Harkness, who should incidentally, stick to writing history books or guides to places of interest in Oxford.

Very very slow start, felt absolutely no empathy for the key character, then it descended into self gratification. I really felt that the writer has sadly, never fallen truly in love because she doesn't know what it feels like, she also has no idea of what physical pain feels like, she's kind of sado-machocistic almost enjoying the ruin of her key character's body.

She has obviously researched witchcraft a great deal and all sorts of people will be trying dangerous desperate things and dabbling in things they really shouldn't because of her book.

I will not be wasting my money buying the next two books.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not as beautiful Dorian, 11 Feb 2010
This review is from: Dorian Gray [DVD] (DVD)
I read this book when I was 14 and it scared me because I have a wonderfully vivid imagination. Dorian was more beautiful when described by Oscar Wilde, who obviously appreciated youthful male beauty. The actor who portrayed him was just not pretty enough. Dear Colin Firth didn't have the consummate skin crawling creepiness required to be his despoiler.

However the film was very watchable but leaves nothing to the imagination. Please read the book you'll see what I mean.
